afternoon Charlie and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

Charlie and all, how do!
Avatar 12:01pm Carmichael:

Here.
Avatar 12:02pm mauri:

heyup!
Avatar 12:02pm Michael:

Hiya Charlie and all others here and to arrive shortly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm doctorjazz:

Hi all!
Avatar 12:02pm thatpatsmith:

heyyyy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Charlie:

Hi gang :)
  12:03pm frenchee:

Hola, Carlos!
  12:04pm frenchee:

I wondered how soon we'd get to the Ornettery....RIP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm doctorjazz:

Ornette! I'm really bummed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Charlie:

Yes, very sad about Ornette :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm northguineahills:

yep, we all can use some Ornette now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm listener james from westwood:

Mentioned his passing via email to some longtime friends. Two immediately responded "Who?" Depressing.
  12:06pm Listening Out There:

Hey, it's Busy Doing Charlie day...
Avatar 12:06pm Carmichael:

Did Christopher Lee ever sing? Like maybe on a Golden Throats comp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Parq:

Carm., google "Christopher Lee sings". All will be revealed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm listener james from westwood:

Lee actually recorded, in his late 80s/early 90s, a couple of heavy metal albums.
  12:08pm Listening Out There:

I got to see Ornette once, with Prime Time. He was the remaining member of his classic quartet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Charlie:

Ooh, wish I'd seen Ornette play. Never had the pleasure. I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot of Ornette on the stream and on WFMU in the days to come.
  12:15pm frenchee:

I never saw him perform either. A lot of concert-performance regrets on my list, most notably Nina Simone. I coulda, I shoulda....I didna.
  12:16pm frenchee:

Saw her daughter perform in RENT tho.
Avatar 12:16pm ndbob:

nice one here Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm listener james from westwood:

Hah, thought this might have been Nouvelle Vague. Prob b/c I have their Joy Division cover on the brain.
  12:18pm Listening Out There:

While I SAW Ornette in the lineup, I could not HEAR much, sadly. Prime Time had 2 guitarists, 2 drummers, + 2 basses. Because of lousy sound engineering in the venue, it was almost unlistenable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm schmutz:

hey hi hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Webhamster Henry:

I never hear Sophie singing anything but her own special material - so thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Charlie:

Hi newbies and oilyboids!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Parq:

Loved that verse to "Tramp" - is that original to Porter?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Webhamster Henry:

(The Lady is a Tramp is Rogers & Hart) - I'm not hearing any new verses here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Parq:

Pssht. Is my face red, Harry. I've labored for decades under the belief that it was a Porter tune. Thanks for the correction.
  12:24pm frenchee:

hey Cholly, are you keeping an eye out for those New York jailbirds? They're in VT now, supposedly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Charlie:

That's why I moved to NH, frenchee ;)
Avatar 12:29pm Carmichael:

If I see 'em out here in California, frenchee, I'll drop 'em on Alcatraz!
  12:30pm frenchee:

@Charlie, @Carmichael: Be careful out there!
  12:32pm Peter & Sarah:

Tune!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm listener james from westwood:

@Para, you're not alone re: "Tramp" and Porter. It's just so deftly Porteresque.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm listener james from westwood:

Sorry, that should be Parq! I need a break from proofing, I think!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Charlie:

"It could last until tomorrow . . . "
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Parq:

Snow Queen -- another favorite.
Avatar 12:40pm mauri:

wonderful music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Charlie:

There are escaped crazies everywhere -- just look around ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Charlie:

I mean, I'm on the loose . . .
  12:43pm frenchee:

@Charlie: indeed, just jump over that wall.....
  12:43pm frenchee:

oooh lovin' this sitar-soaked "Cannabis"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Charlie:

sitar = audio THC
  12:44pm jan:

We are all enjoying the program.
Avatar 12:51pm Carmichael:

As an old hippie, I'm diggin' the tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Uncle Michael:

bottle rocket war
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm listener james from westwood:

UM, friends of mine used to do that, using pipes aimed from car windows. It's a marvel they escaped adolescence intact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm pacific standard simon:

Good morning. I'm not busy doing anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm pacific standard simon:

Just got a 500-pack of water balloons in the mail yesterday. We could have fun with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm listener james from westwood:

Ahhhh, the KPM experience. Music for humans busy doing something.
  1:00pm gary mitchell:

i can imagine speeded up badminton footage while this is playing
Avatar 1:01pm βrian:

"And look at the whipped cream on that fresh fountain soda! Yessir …"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Webhamster Henry:

This is less boring than some of the other needle drop music I have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Charlie:

Hi Gary, thanks for picking up a racquet!
Avatar 1:03pm ndbob:

Heya Garrryyy et al
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Charlie:

Yes, Henry, I strive to be "less boring"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm SeanG:

this is paul mccartney right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Charlie:

I believe so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Uncle Michael:

Simon, how much did that delivery weigh? Shipping must've been thousands of dollars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Jeff Golick:

Hi, sound friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Uncle Michael:

I'm not of sound mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Jeff Golick:

I respectfully disagree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Charlie, and hello all Nothingistas. Still reeling from just learning about Ornette's death. What a rotten thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Uncle Michael:

Who am I to argue?
Avatar 1:12pm still b/p:

Speaking of shipping:
I still got about 50 production music records taking up space in my living room. Last time I brought 'em up, Uncle Michael was ready to send his shipping address. Well, just take a Maine vacation and take home music libraries instead of lobsters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Webhamster Henry:

BTW, it looks like there's some new Sophie Tucker material coming out from some obsessed retired fans: sophietucker.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Jeff Golick:

But my frame of mind is decidedly askew. Not only Ornette, but I discovered this morning that a former colleague of mine (the person who let me go, in fact) has been rooting around in my personal gmail account for months, via my old work laptop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Uncle Michael:

I'd forgotten. I'd want to pay for the shipping, still b/p.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm pacific standard simon:

@Uncle Michael - Naaw, they're the instant kind -- just add water.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

Jesus, Jeff. Confrontation and a password change?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Webhamster Henry:

Maybe WFMU can have a Production Music stream, with occasional forays into Industrial musicals.
Avatar 1:16pm Michael:

Wonderful set there Charlie -
  1:16pm Listening Out There:

Petra Haden being, of course, one of Charlie Haden's triplet daughters. Haden was the bassist with Ornette for many years...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Jeff Golick:

Yeah, I'd been pretty good with security, using 2-step verification for years, but must've okayed the work laptop as a "trusted" machine at some point, and in my haste during the letting go, forgot to deactivate that piece. The person who did this is paranoid beyond belief.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

Have emailed key people but the silence has been near-complete.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

</vent>

Thanks, folks.
  1:20pm Listening Out There:

I think the Beach Boys used Gold Star Studios, didn't they?
  1:21pm Listening Out There:

I'm not inclined to see the Brian Wilson biopic, even though I'm a big fan. I'd be curious how Murray, the father, is portrayed...
  1:21pm Listening Out There:

...how or if...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

Murry.

I hope like this:

Avatar 1:23pm Michael:

Yelling at Brian I imagine.
  1:23pm gary mitchell:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

I just love hurtin' cattle.
Avatar 1:24pm ndbob:

@jeff woah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Charlie:

Gary -- I cued up the wrong song! This one goes out to you, 'cause of that great instro of Rancho Grande you use as talkover.
  1:27pm Listening Out There:

Uncle Michael: Thx for the link! Have not seen the animation, but have heard the audio somewhere. Probably some wacko FMU show... :)
  1:28pm gary mitchell:

"bring it on home"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm listener james from westwood:

Freakin' awful, Jeff. Hoping they get back to you so this can be shut down.
Avatar 1:32pm Carmichael:

@Listening: He was portrayed as the asshole he was.
  1:33pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hi Charlie! Hi Uncle Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Charlie:

that stinks, Jeff G
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm listener james from westwood:

PLU! Back on FMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Uncle Michael:

Hi Wendy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Charlie:

Hi Wendy!
  1:39pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Charlie, you put a great version of this one by Jerry Orbach on one of your comps. Such a lovely song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Charlie:

I love Jerry Orbach. He introduced "Promises Promises" in the original show.
  1:40pm frenchee:

ah Jerry O. (bows head).
  1:40pm gary mitchell:

daisies running riot, no one passing by it...
  1:42pm Wendy del Formaggio:

I knew Jerry O described "Promises, Promises" as "impossible to sing" or some such thing because of its frequent time-sig changes, but I never heard him sing it. Now I have to look it up! Well, in 20 minutes when your show is done :-)
  1:43pm frenchee:

@Jeff, that does indeed suck. Would a photo of Sen Estes Kefauver in a coonskin cap help? Oh wait, "no HTML"
  1:44pm frenchee:

Charlie, king of the segues!
  1:46pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Three cheers for Charlie!
And for Frenchee, too. Hi, Frenchee!
  1:46pm frenchee:

WENDELA! howdy...
  1:47pm Listening Out There:

Show Me Your Piece of Turf...
  1:48pm Listening Out There:

...it's a natural pickup line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Doug Schulkind:

And Lord Buckley biographer and playwright (www.indiegogo.com...) Oliver Trager was at the 5th game of the 1969 World Series, too!
Avatar 1:50pm Michael:

Cleon Jones thanks you for remembering that glorious year!
Avatar 1:50pm still b/p:

Anybody else have their first encounter with the name Estes Kefauver in '73 in the National Lampoon High School 1964 Yearbook parody...anybody...?
  1:50pm frenchee:

Bring on all the plinka-plinka! I love the turf TMI story. Great minds all convening at Shea.....
  1:51pm frenchee:

@still b/p: <raises hand meekly> But let's just say I didn't get the joke till YEARS later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, still b/p. Me.

Smok!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Matt F:

Thanks for the spin Charlie! Should I send the five bucks in the mail or do you have PayolaPal?
  1:55pm Listening Out There:

This is from one of my favorite albums of Ornette's
Avatar 1:55pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Charlie:

Two cents will do, Matt. You can put it in starting in a few minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Bless you and thank you, Randolph Denard Ornette Coleman.
Avatar 1:56pm Carmichael:

Me too, still b/p. The Kefauver Kangaroos. Chuck U. Farley. And my favorite, Rufus Leaking ("Spaz").
