Seems like this song has spawned a lot of interesting covers. Hi, Jeff.

Jeff Conklin:

Hi, PSS. That might be my favorite rendition
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19am
pacific standard simon:

I'm new to your show (work schedule change), but it has a real old-school, late-night radio feel.
Avatar 3:26am
Jeff Conklin:

Welcome aboard, Simon. Glad to have you. Hope you hear something that sticks with you....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am
pacific standard simon:

Huh. trying to look up Rainbow Band, but the first page on Google is all about the Ritchie Blackmore Rainbow.
Avatar 3:38am
JimBarker:

There's this on discogs: www.discogs.com...

JimBarker:

Really enjoying this show. Sadly I have to go to work in about 7 minutes (I live in the UK, and it's nearly quarter to 9)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39am
pacific standard simon:

Wait, what? Those guys were Danes?
Avatar 3:41am
Jeff Conklin:

Thanks for checking in Jim. Yup, Rainbow Band were Danish. Just one album I believe recorded in 1970

fredr:

Great sounds as usual Jeff. Listening to you live, not archive as I'm in and out of sleep.
Avatar 3:42am
Jeff Conklin:

Sorry in advance for any nightmares, fredr.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am
pacific standard simon:

There's something about how they re-recorded it under the name Midnight Sun, because some Canadians owned the name "Rainbow Band".

pacific standard simon:

In the early '70s I used to fall asleep to stuff like this on KSAN San Francisco.
Avatar 3:49am
Jeff Conklin:

KSAN was pretty hip from what I've read...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59am
pacific standard simon:

It was. Sometimes a little TOO hip for its own good -- the program directors could slam down hard on perfectly wonderful music that was judged too pop or too nerdy. But all in all, it was great. And a lot of bootlegs you find on the internet today wouldn't exist without their live shows. Plus they (sometimes) supported punk when that happened.

Hey Jeff, enjoying the show. Waiting to hear your pronunciation of Les Rallizes Denudés. My friends and I usually just say something like, "That Japanese band with the French name that I can't remember or pronounce".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04am
pacific standard simon:

Lay Ralsay Denudeh?
Avatar 4:05am
Jeff Conklin:

now im gonna be all self conscious about it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06am
pacific standard simon:

I have to say, this show is pretty damn hip.
  4:09am
rw:

Ha! Don't be self conscious! It's cool. We're like family. Though I'm pretty sure nobody on FMU has ever mispronounced the name of a band before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14am
pacific standard simon:

Yeah, Roger Dean, his first one.

Interesting -- the Woodstock album was ALSO on Cotillion. The label must have thought they were holding Quill back for a big solo splash.
  4:18am
rw:

I liked that Meg Baird track. I'm going to check out the album.

Okay. That's it for me. Good night. Have a good week everybody!
Avatar 4:19am
Jeff Conklin:

Thanks, rw

Shawn David McMillen digs Howard Roberts, he says. Good taste.

OK, the Dead. You're speaking my language. This era, at least.

after your description sad I missed that milrod, tilth, McMillen segment. will have to go back to the archives later today.

If an excerpt from I Think We're All Bozos On This Bus were to appear, I might die satisfied.

Love the old Floyd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16am
pacific standard simon:

Well. If you'd played me the first part of this song and asked me to guess, I never would have picked Pink Floyd. Some country rock band, maybe. Clover?
Avatar 5:18am
Jeff Conklin:

Hearing that Floyd track after being bludgeoned by the hits on classic rock radio for years was some revelation, let me tell you!
Avatar 5:20am
pierre:

I am REALLY in need of music.

Bonjour Jeff and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am
pacific standard simon:

I used to call up my local station and request Pink Floyd, but all they would ever play was "Grandchester Meadows". Never heard of Syd Barrett, apparently.
