Hello Jeff and magicians. I have made the choice to choogle.

There will be chooglin'? Sign me up.

Heya Jeff, Carmichael, et al
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm

How do, Jeff and all! Hoping everyone's Mondays are proceeding gently!

Chooglin' ahead! Hi hi hi, Carmichael, Uncle Michael, ndbob, listener james from westwood, and Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
fred:

Good afternoon Jeff and listeners. I saw Tortoise was playing at one of my regular venues next season, but the price is just too steep, so I passed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Jeff Golick:

Hi, fred! Welcome. What is going rate for Tortoise, if I may ask?
  12:10pm
Dean:

Bought a car on Saturday. Logged its first service call on Sunday. Fuck cars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
fred:

€30, that's too much for me, but if I hadn't seen them before, I might have done it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Jeff Golick:

Might not be the show for you, Dean. Sorry about that!
  12:11pm
Dean:

My favorite Kinks song makes things better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
listener james from westwood:

@Dean, that's a stone bummer. I am just now emailing dealers for offers on a new one. I hope to have a couple duking it out by teatime. Hope this is the last service call for that car in the reasonably foreseeable future!
Avatar 12:13pm
Carmichael:

Daddy loves his Kinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Jeff Golick:

Dean: new or used?

This Kinks is from their At the BBC collection, 1977 Xmas concert.
  12:16pm
Dean:

@ljfw: The problem is innocuous -- likely a defective passenger seat belt sensor -- but criminy! We managed to snag a practically new vehicle, with 1250 miles on it. Other customers were hovering around it, too. I think we got a fair deal for what amounts practically to a brand new car at a used price.
  12:17pm
Dean:

Did I mention that it's a Maserati? No? Good, 'cuz it isn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
doctorjazz:

Hi all! Good Luck, James. My cars are between 130-150,000 miles, hanging in so far, but I hate car shopping so much, usually drive 'em until they die!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Jeff Golick:

Hey, @doctorjazz! I'm driving a 1995 vehicle myself, just hoping it holds on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
fred:

re: Tortoise, I might get a cheaper ticket through work, if it gets below €20, I'll probably go for old time's sake
Avatar 12:22pm
Carmichael:

I bought a brand new car 2 years ago, first one ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
doctorjazz:

Having a roots week...saw Rhiannon Giddens at Prospect Park Saturday night, tonight Jim Kweskin Jug Band at City Winery, with "special guests". Having fun...Giddens rocked the house, by the way, one of those times when the album doesn't come close to the way she sounds in preson (not that it's bad...)

Dean:

Pearl Harbor & the Explosions on the playlist today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
fred:

I spent a couple summers working to pay for my driver's license. Drove once in a while for like 6 months, hating it all the way, and haven't done so in 20+ years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Jeff Golick:

@Dean: that's a new one on me! (So, no.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Brian in UK:

Let's not talk about cars right now if it is all the same.

Oh my manners. Good day Sir.
Avatar 12:29pm
Carmichael:

Dean, you are indeed a Bay Area guy. Jane Dornacker, et al ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
Jeff Golick:

Howdy, @Brian in UK!
  12:32pm
Dean:

@Carmichael: I am now, but was So Cal for forty years. I was selling records in LA when the Pearl Harbor record came out. I do remember, vaguely, Leila and the Snakes, but didn't know until peaking at -pedia that PH backed Dornacker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
fred:

I'm trying to avoid being sent to LA for work, can I claim my dislike for driving is grounds for not being allowed in that city?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Uncle Michael:

Fred, go get your license suspended.
  12:36pm
Dean:

@fred: LA has evolved driving-wise over the years, for better and worse. I used to commute during rush hour from the eastern end of the county across Slauson to Culver City (near LAX). I'd defer the return trip home by hanging out at libraries, waiting for traffic to ease up. Now, it no longer eases up. But there are a growing number of increasingly walkable neighborhoods, Culver City among them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Brian in UK:

Guilty Mr Golick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Jeff Golick:

That's right, @Brian! Sorry for that - will correct the attribution on the next break.

What does a mountain mama drive? In Colorado, maybe a Subaru.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm

Maybe RyCooder, "Crazy bout an Automobile"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Brian in UK:

I saw Sly and Robbie last Friday with some Scandinavian Jazz/electronic types. Good, interesting gig. I was shocked to see Sly Dunbar hobbling up to the kit with a stick. BUT as soon as he hit those drums he was relentless. Do not know what ails him but the man can still play. One time sounded like he was playing Dub drums if you can imagine that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Artie Haywire:

A mountain sugar mama might have a nice silver Audi. Let's go with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Brian in UK:

He was wearing a boiler suit and hard hat too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Jeff Golick:

Today's art/cars are placed quite randomly, btw.
  12:43pm
Dean:

Sly & Robbie played a t-i-n-y club in Oakland a month or so ago...and I missed 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Jeff Golick:

@Brian: still cutting quite a figure, it would seem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Brian in UK:

I could imagine John Hiatt singing something like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
doctorjazz:

Long May You Run!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Jeff Golick:

I've seen very little reggae live. My experience with reggae & fraternities during my college years still leaves scars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm

Thirld World will be a Celebrate Brooklyn..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Brian in UK:

I think we are spoiled with our connections to the Carribean. How those connections originated is another story!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @doctorjazz. Despite living w/in walking distance of Prospect Park, my attendance at Celebrate BK events is dismal.
  12:57pm
Dean:

Two words: Augustus Pablo.

For such a small island, Jamaica is a wonderment, musically. Mind you so is their neighbour, Kooba.

Top job, Jeff. Too short as ever.

Hey, Jesse K! Thanks for the technical know-how! (I'm disappointed I ran out of images, tho.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
doctorjazz:

Maybe Jason Isbell might be of interest at Prospect Park?
Great show, as usual!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
listener james from westwood:

I sure wouldn't mind grabbing the auto next to "The Hard Road." Friend of mine's college car was one of those beasts. He called it the Death Star.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Brian in UK:

@doctorjazz. Just ordered Mr Isbell's new one. What a songwriter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
listener james from westwood:

Always fun, Jeff! Thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
doctorjazz:

I used to be walking distance from the 9th street entrance, Celebrate Brooklyn, didn't use it as much as I could have. Now I truck in from Jersey...
  1:04pm
Dean:

Thank you. It's the thousand dollar repairs that'll get you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Artie, @Brian, @doctorjazz! @Dean!
I like that one, too, @ljfw - thanks to you!
