Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from August 11, 2015 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Favoriting August 11, 2015: w/ guest DJ TOM LAX from Siltbreeze Records

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

The annual visit from our pal Tom Lax, bringing up yet another assortment of obscuro and extremely special 7" singles wax from Siltbreeze headquarters in Philadelphia. If you've checked out this special in past years you know that you will certainly be hearing a lot of DIY/post-punk and general oddball stuff you will probably not hear anywhere else (and see as well, as we will be posting the sleeve art on the playlist page live). Not to be missed!

The Cramps, hell yeah!

Thanks Fred. I know people like to be the "first" to appreciate a good band, but it does an artist or band no good to never make a livable wage doing the work they love. I am not a fan of the whole starving artist misconseption.

@blee: “I am not a fan of the whole starving artist misconseption.” Agreed. Tired of this precious little puppy/flower mentality in the arts. Let bands be successful; there’s no honor in obscurity or poverty.

  4:26pm
Dean:

Just for fun, I ran "gulcher" through ngram. Results appear in the 1880s (!) and then again in the 1940s, peaking right around 1972, when Meltzer first published his book, and then a steady ascent to 1992, when a revision appeared. But OED has no entry for the word.
