I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Thanks steve! Glad you're enjoying it!! Makes sense they picked that track for the comp, northguineahills. I think it's one of the best in this album and also I loved it cos it always made perfect sound track when I took monorail in Tokyo!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Gary:

I've seen a couple in Queens, but not that many. I used to see LOTS in Minneapolis
  8:07pm
Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of monorails (well minotaurs, actually) Kurt Gottschalk of WFMU's Miniature Minotaurs will be filling in for Explorers Room next Thursday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
northguineahills:

We had fireflies in Atsugi, Kanagawa-ken, and we were in the middle of the mega-conurbation that is Tokyo-Yokohama.
Avatar 8:08pm
steve:

ive gone on 5 epic walks from Greenpoint to Coney Island this summer and have not seen a single firefly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
northguineahills:

@Steve: I've seen fireflies in Williamsburg & Bushwick this summer. No more the a few dozen at a time, but they're there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm

Mayuko:

Have a good night, ndbob! Welcome on board, melinda! Thank you for tuning in!
Avatar 8:19pm
Mayuko:

northguineahills, Atsugi is sorta towards the west, much closer to the mountain area, no? I grew up by super filthy rivers so maybe that's why I never got to see em. Sad Face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Gary:

Super-loving the Ché-SHIZU
Avatar 8:20pm
Mayuko:

steve, I was worried that fireflies came out late this summer. I see them in Queens now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
northguineahills:

@Steve: I live off of the Montrose stop, but I usually see them by the projects of Cooper Park. In Greenpoint I've seen them on Noble.
Avatar 8:23pm
Mayuko:

Gary, this is the stuff Tori Kudo is playing guitar! I was happily surprised to find that there are several stuff of Chie Mukai & her Ché-SHIZU in wfmu library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
northguineahills:

Actually, NAF Atsugi is b/tn Ayase-shi & Yamato-shi. It was called Atsugi b/c after WWII, it was the only town around even though it's nearly 30km away. It was only 7km from the Sagami River, which was disgusting. To think I once rafter 30 km down the Sagami River w/ the Boy Scouts, I can't believe I didn't get sick from that, as we could see the untreated industrial and agricultural runoff into the river as we floated past.
Avatar 8:24pm
Mayuko:

Doug, I'll announce that Kurt will be filling in next week! hooray!
Avatar 8:30pm
Mayuko:

ohhh. Was Sagami River the one that goes to Tokyo Bay? (which is also disgusting.) And you still saw hotaru? Maybe what I was taught was wrong! I think the water quality has got much better than our childhood time there now though.
Avatar 8:31pm
Mayuko:

No, sorry, I was thinking about Tamagawa river.
Avatar 8:34pm
Mayuko:

Now I see, Atsugi is sorta close to Kamakura too - I'd imagine it to be not TOO bad from Tokyo average.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
northguineahills:

The Sagami River starts northwest of Yokohama and empties south of Yokohama. When I lived there, there were barely any environmental controls, in the 90s, Japan passed some of the most stringent in the world.

Thanks Mayuko, I got to bounce away, good fun tunes :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
northguineahills:

Been to the Tamagawa River, just not in it.
Avatar 8:35pm
Mayuko:

Good for you not in it. Thanks for tuning in, northguineahills! Have a great night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm

Kamakura is about 30-40 minute train ride from Naval Air Facility Atsugi, a joint US Navy - JDF base.

Another great show, Mayuko. And with two members of YMO in the first set. That means something for me: a long time ago, my mother knit a YMO sweater for me, with the logo in front and the three guys' names (in Kanji) in the back.
Avatar 11:28pm
Mayuko:

Hello & thank you, Mr. Flash! fred, your mom rocks. I hope you still have that sweater. my mom took me to a movie of which soundtrack was composed by Haruomi Hosono, and after that I bought its CD because I loved it so much and it was the first CD ever I bought in my life. now I see moms from all around the world have supported YMO a lot!
