This opening track reminds me of the a capella thing our second grade music teacher had us sing: Ta ta ti ti ta. Ti ti ta ta. We would also clap along to it, I think.

Speaking in tongues is what they do in Pentecostal and Charismatic churches. Should be plenty of recordings online if you care to search for them.

My ex is/was Pentecostal because her parents were ministers and ran a Pentecostal church. I learned about this speaking in tongues thing the weekend I visited.

Afterward I asked why she never warned me. She just shrugged and said "you wouldn't have believed me"

Glad to hear that, Dan.....I have a Ph.D. in linguistics (yes, really) and am quite fascinated by glossolalia. :)

There are some forms of aphasia where the sufferers can only express themselves in curse words and nothing else. Sad but true.

Suggestions: some or all of Caroline Shaw's Partita for 8 Voices.

Also Stockhausen's Stimmung, but that's an hour long and doesn't break up into neat pieces!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Dan Bodah:

@Will, I do have it on my agenda to pick out some black metal for the show, but specific suggestions are welcome.
  7:49pm
Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

I suggest you yell into the microphone in the strangest voice you can
  7:50pm
Cliff:

He doesn't need to, they've got all kinds of knobs and doohickeys in the studio to alter the sound of things
  7:52pm
JakeGould:

@DanBodah: I like this show. In a 1 hour timespan you are waking me up with all of this stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm

yma to diamanda is a natural segue.
  7:53pm
Noisy:

One suggestion that immediately sprang to mind was "Parole", it has great glossolalia but I don't know who performed it. Also, Enka is an entire genre of Japanese music well known for its unusual and histrionic vocals.

Thanks for playing Diamanda. I expect we'll hear some Yoko Ono and Sachiko soon, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Dan Bodah:

@JakeGould, I feel like an hour really flies by, but I'm trying to pace things so the music has time to settle in.
  7:55pm
JakeGould:

@DanBodah: Oh, it does fly by… But I think it’s a good pace for those stuff. At least for poor schmoes who don’t know about most of it. Good work!
  7:56pm
Cliff:

Balinese Kecak would be fun to listen to too....Nurse With Wound and Mr. Bungle have both sampled such sounds
  7:56pm
Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

i'm a poor schmoe
