A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

if i need to offer an explanation for today's show:
Cancer (June 22–July 22)

If we were regular old astrologists, Cancer, we’d tell you that you have carte blanche this month to bend the rules, behave amorally, and do some things that might be perceived as unjust. But because we’re art astrologists, we’re going to use a phrase we throw around a lot in HAWUSA (Horoscope Art Writers, USA chapter) meetings: you have Robert Ryman (aka carte blanche, since he only makes white painting) to be a little rash and irresponsible in November, because otherwise you’re going to get trampled (emotionally and professionally).
Avatar Tue. 11/10/15 10:10am Trouble:

merci zinoy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/10/15 10:12am Monstrositor:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/10/15 10:22am lazylinepainter:

I love the art horoscopes of which you speak...Libra one is so racy:

Now is a good time to be promiscuous, Libra, just know that your flings, experiments, and nocturnal adventures, though fun, will not result in anything particularly profound or enduring. Try doing it on the floor, or against the wall, or in public. Could it work suspended from the ceiling? Have you considered bringing in more people to collaborate with? Why not incorporate video? You should indulge all your impulses this month, artistically and otherwise.

Unlike human hair follicles with a mere one hair each, chinchilla follicles have up to eighty hairs each. I found that in my chinchilla research yesterday.

Richard Hell’s “I Dreamed I Was a Very Clean Tramp” is a decent read. Except for one thing: Every woman he meets, discusses or admires in it gets some elaborate sentence or two on their breasts. I think it’s his running gag.

Also reading Art Donovan’s “Fatso” and he talks about goofy things and eating food just like you expect a human caricature to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/10/15 11:15am Monstrositor:

I recently saw some amazing screenprints by two artists named Daniel Danger and James Flames
  Tue. 11/10/15 11:16am JT:

There are Morandi show's at David Zwirner in Chelsea and at the Center for Italian Modern Art in Soho ( reservations required ). Lastly there is a good painting show at Algus Greenspon 71 Morton St West Village

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I've seen a bunch of 'Net reports that Allen Toussaint has passed away. Damn, another legend leaves us.
Avatar Tue. 11/10/15 11:16am geegee vindaloo:

I just finished "A Planet for Rent" by Yoss. He's a Cuban science fiction writer. The book is a series of short stories about earth becoming a 3rd world tourist destination for beings from more highly developed planets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/10/15 11:16am Monstrositor:

And Dan McCarthy was another phenomenal screenprint artist who was in the same show. Can't leave him out.
  Tue. 11/10/15 11:17am emily:

Have read a lot of Anita Brookner until I wanted to slit my wrists. Am reading Proust. It is a five year project. Also, the Robert Caro "Lyndon Johnson" series: another longish project. Now I want to go to the Princeton Museum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/10/15 11:17am Jeff:

I was going to suggest Morandi after I finished feeding the dog and got back to a computer...

Noted still-life photographer and SUNY Purchase faculty member Jan Groover was a big Morandi fan. I got into Morandi the back way. looking for that compositional influence on Groover's formally-composed, subtly-lit and usually platinum/palladium-printed photos.

I recommend looking up both artists.
  Tue. 11/10/15 11:17am Tardigrade:

I discovered an artist by the name of Simon Stalenhag yesterday. If anyones a minor sci fi head his home page has an amazing story told in pictures only that you can scroll through..... haven't read all about it yet but wicked artwork!

Avatar Tue. 11/10/15 11:24am bobdoesthings:

as for photos/still life - I love www.dantobinsmith.com... work.. however much more of a commercial artist.. but as a photo retoucher and a person who sits on the more technical side of commercial studio photo work I've always admired his work.
  Tue. 11/10/15 11:24am JT:

Hey Jeff! I had Jan Groover as a teacher as well '84-'88. She was the best Teacher ever and her appreciation of Morandi was contagious.. I even cat-sat for her back in the day.. She loved her cats too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/10/15 11:28am Jeff:

  Tue. 11/10/15 11:38am emily:

I wish @jake, but then you wouldn't get all of the details. It's a long slog but really rewarding. FYI: I taught one year at Purchase (when I was a child): I drove up to Purchase with Jan Groover. She was an amazing person. Her retrospective at MoMA (in early 90's) was great. She left the Bowery and America for France because she couldn't stand it (she said this in the car). This was before the second Bush!
