Favoriting November 18, 2015: Special Guest: David Garland

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

David Garland has been an active composer, multi-instrumentalist
and singer since the 1980s; his songs are tuneful, experimental,
and heartfelt. His new music is inspired by a unique guitar, playing
with proportion, and by the evocative landscapes of upstate New York.
Many WFMU listeners know Garland as the host of WNYC's
eclectic Spinning On Air, which ran for nearly 30 years.

This sounds a bit like the Duran Duran of Death Metal.

Good grey afternoon, Irwin. Wonderful show.....
Any chance we will find out from David G. why his amazing show got axed from the evil WNYC?

I second Officina's question! I'd add "Will you do a regular show on WFMU, maybe? Kinda like Stochastic Hit Parade/A440"?

What makes the pictured guitar "unique"?

That song reminded me of when Herbie Mann asked me to join his band when I was 17/18.

Now that he has disclosed this, it may be hard to patent...it might be better is he simply starts MAKING and SELLING them....as "the original" something something guitar...

Jimi had Roger Mayer - who had done secret work w/ radar for the British Navy or something...

Wonderful to hear David--making me regret I have to leave in 30 min. for an event--will catch up on archive what I miss today.

Read 'bolus' in 'The Right Stuff' - when the astronauts eat peppers to spite the doctors who mess w/ them. 2nd time I've heard used now...

Does Mr. Garland have a dee-jay set up in his home upstate? Would be yet another addition to Doug's world wide network of jerry-rigged home studios.
  4:53pm
Listener Robert:

Dale, the more I think about it, the more I like "Spinning In A Stream" as a show name -- evoking a fish lure. Luring in listeners. Hey, he does use reels, doesn't he?
