This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Avatar 5:21pm

I remember finding this LP - long gone like most of my vinyl
Avatar 5:22pm
Flash Strap:

hate to hear of all those lost treasures, Bob
Avatar 5:24pm
Flash Strap:

where's they all go? did you liberate yourself from the millstone of vinyl ownership or were they lost in tragedy?
Avatar 5:25pm
ndbob:

@Evan I sold off my collection - have acquired some since then - was just too much to manage
Avatar 5:25pm

"For this latest work, Bastien recycled components of his Silent Motors live set and assembled new mechanical organisms—using amplified Meccano parts, motors, fans, rattles, paper, and nails—to generate rhythmic scaffolding. Live instrumentals, from prepared trumpets to the African Kundi harp, Javanese rabab, sanza, electric harpsichord, bass, drums, and gongs, were then superimposed on top."

Love the art, Ernst or Ernst-inspired?
Avatar 6:01pm
Flash Strap:

Ernst indeed!
Avatar 6:02pm

Pierre Bastien is always fun! Making tacos w/ chipotle peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, and guatemalan cheese. Being lactose intolerant isn't fun.

I also have some sal de gusano to sprinkle on them!

Oh, shoot -- you started at 5?
Avatar 6:06pm
Flash Strap:

such is the struggle
Avatar 6:07pm
Flash Strap:

I did! Even though we made it known through the mailing, I figured I wouldn't see much action till 6, and boy was I right. Glad to see you all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
Santos L. Halper:

Seems unusually well-lit and almost hyper-real, so wasn't sure. He's so wonderfully organic and lush, works great with your selections.
Avatar 6:08pm
Flash Strap:

Ernst is truly amazing. In my opinion, and with much deliberation, the secret greatest artist of the 20th century
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm
coelacanth:

i'm not lactose intolerant; but dairy is pretty gross.
i know it's bad for me (& most people) so when i'm tempted i just consider what it actually is (far from just milk); how the cows are treated; how much more food could be available if land weren't wasted on meat and dairy production; and what it's going to make my body do.
i usually lose my appetite.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
Gary:

I suppose I could have *read* the email :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm

i don't think i got a notification.

heh, that was me just wondering how to pronounce edo and getting waylaid by an auto-audio feature
Avatar 6:13pm
Flash Strap:

well that's why we have archives, so we can save little treats for later
Avatar 6:18pm
northguineahills:

I don't want to be one "of those guys", but I only have dairy products from local farms (even said guatalmalan cheese is local). Dairy is a good way to put an adipose coating on the stomach lining, However, the duodenum of my intestines feels different. I'm able to have dairy once a week w/o too much of a problem.

Now sugar, damn, that's like an F1 series racing to get through to my anus in record time. Even too much fruit will waylay me for a good 40 minutes w/in an hour of ingesting.

Tony mentioned Flash would start at 5. Crap, tacos are almost burnt!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
Gary:

I'm usually in meetings most of the day Tuesday, so I often miss Tony's show :(
Avatar 6:23pm
northguineahills:

I never drink milk, so, I only eat cheese (usually goat or sheep), as it's has a lower lactose amount. I do have ice cream maybe four times a year, but, it's always a bad idea. ms. ngh makes me non-dairy 'ice cream' for the occasions I need to use my sweet tooth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
coelacanth:

this is so tarzanic!
Avatar 6:31pm
Flash Strap:

I love the idea of this, tarzanic as an adjective. Shorty was a little linguist
Avatar 6:32pm
northguineahills:

Reminds me when I was a kid, and went to Crystal Springs, FL, where they filmed Tarzan. And it's where I got an Indiana Jones whip, the deadliest weapon my parents allowed me to have .
Avatar 6:33pm
Flash Strap:

I've been there! Loved it as a kid. Saw the Tarzan water/trapeze show
Avatar 6:34pm

favorite Tarzan? probably Buster Crabbe
Avatar 6:35pm

it changed gears.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm
Gary:

He didn't meet Tarzan yet?
Avatar 6:36pm
Flash Strap:

too Tarzanic to end that soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm
coelacanth:

Tarzan is a complex individual.
Avatar 6:37pm
Flash Strap:

maybe on Thursday I'll play some stuff from the other side of this LP, very nice mamboxitica
  6:46pm
Dean:

OED recognizes "Tarzanesque."
Avatar 6:47pm
Flash Strap:

well that stands to reason, I suppose. Seems a more sober modification that Tarzanic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
coelacanth:

i describe the Tarzanness of it as such: it started out Tarzanic; after the change it was Tarzanish; and the over piece was Tarzanesque.
...but how would i know. i'm just an apeman.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:53pm
listener james from westwood:

Very glad for this early-week dose of the Explorers Room; thanks!
Avatar 6:55pm
ndbob:

excellent show Evan! hear you on Thursday!
  6:55pm
Dean:

Strictly (per OED), -esque means "resembling the style partaking of the characteristics of," where -ic (from French -ique) carries the senses "after the manner of," "of the nature of," "pertaining to," of." IOW, -ic implies identity where -esque implies similarity. This is all fine, but then "suite" sort of undercuts the effect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm
coelacanth:

that makes sense...but i know a guy who used to jam with 'Zan and he says he's basically a be bop player.
