Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from March 1, 2016 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Cliff:

Hello Brian & Cecile & everybody, nice creepy start to the show here
  3:03pm
Cliff:

Wow, just looked up Current 93 on Brainwashed.com, didn't know he was still putting out so much stuff.
  3:11pm
Cliff:

I played Dogs Blood Rising for a friend of mine back in college in the 90's. She was studying Ancient Greek and recognized the word "Antichrists" written on the CD, so she got out her dictionary and translated the whole thing and it turned out to be a passage from the Book of Revelation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
cklequ:

Is this some sort of Blood Stereo/Bren’t Lewiis collaboration?

Why do (some) British people sound so skin-crawlingly creepy to my American ears
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
Andrew Waterloo:

That scene is much creepier out of context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
maestroso:

What is that scene from? I hear it often on FMU.
  3:26pm
Polyus:

re: Current 93 - the last couple of records I have heard have actually been pretty conventional, guitar-based things. Conventional by Tibet standards, anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Andrew Waterloo:

A British TV series called Spaced. It's a Simon Pegg thing.
  3:29pm
Polyus:

@ BT -Did you notice that Gimme Gimme Gimme cover worked in a bit of the ABBA song as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
maestroso:

Ah, thanks Andrew.
Avatar 3:30pm
steve:

wonder how ID recreates his sounds live
Avatar 3:31pm
steve:

wow nice!
  3:31pm
Cliff:

Polyus, there sure as heck weren't no "conventional, guitar-based things" on that C93 track Brian played
  3:34pm
paula pc:

everything seems to be fine here
  3:34pm
Polyus:

Cliff - I mean Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain or I Was The First Of The Field That Fell. And again, I mean by Tibet standards, which is still pretty unconventional, obviously.
Avatar 3:34pm
Chris from DC:

This is great. Been digging Dumitrescu on Bryce's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
fred:

I remember seeing an ensemble called Hyperion that Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana-Maria Avram had put together from noise and improv performers. Really good stuff that didn't even stop to laugh at the genre barriers they were breaking
Avatar 3:38pm
Brian Turner:

They were amazing to talk to last night, I have the feeling these live presentations are gonna be spectacular, they're completely meticulous and not random in their presentation.
Avatar 3:39pm
TDK60:

Sounds like metal being struck, partially.
  3:39pm
Cliff:

Polyus - right, I just thought it was funny that you'd be mentioning conventional guitars after hearing that track which sounded more like field recordings of ghosts mumbling and screeching in a graveyard ;)
  3:40pm
paula pc:

that sounds so amazing - gonna figure out a way to go. THANK YOU for encouraging us, Brian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
fred:

Ha! I was about to thank you for playing Mamiedaragon last week. Looks like I was right to encourage Thomas to send you some tapes

sincere thanks Fred --- the package was great ---

If you never heard this kind of stuff at your gram's, you'll never understand why jazz and rock 'n' roll had to happen

@Brian: Mamiedaragon features one of the people from Instants Chavirés (my favorite venue), though I don't think she was there when you came for that Group Doueh show

This Fuzz Face track is good music for reading along to this: www.syracuse.com...

(For non-Syracusans, Salina St. is the major N-S road through downtown here, always has bad traffic, so a building collapsing in the middle of the winter sure didn't help things)
