Good morning Jeff! We'll see how long I can stick around. Man, love the LOVE.
  3:09am
V Priceless:

Hey Jeff! Great tunes! I never hear this show live as I'm usually asleep!

mauri:

Good morning Jeff. Gonna be a sunny warm spring day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10am
pacific standard simon:

I rarely sleep, hence I usually listen to this show.
  3:12am
Stefan:

Good morning, ja, spring has come finally to Berlin. Thanks for playing Dick Gaughan in the last couple of shows, saw him 1991 in Scotland, at a community culture center.
Avatar 3:12am
Jeff Conklin:

Morning, all. Sorry about the insomnia, VP. We'll go easy on you with the tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14am
pacific standard simon:

If there's a message in the first couple of songs, I'd just like to say that I DID pledge to this show and hope it will continue forever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15am
pacific standard simon:

What, you don't like the Nico version?
Avatar 3:17am
Jeff Conklin:

There's always a message but you're not the intended receiver, Simon....
Avatar 3:18am
Jeff Conklin:

Nico version is OK. She's no Sandy
  3:21am
JeffHQ:

Haight Sleepbury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am
pacific standard simon:

The first two songs could be part of a mix CD I made for my ex-wife.

I prefer Nico to Sandy on that particular song.
Avatar 3:23am
Jeff Conklin:

@Stefan: That Must've been incredible seeing Gaughan perform live
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26am
pacific standard simon:

In some ways, this is my favorite official Dead album.
Avatar 3:27am
Eiderdown:

I don't think I've ever heard the bass so prominent in a Dead track. Is that standard for this album? Or do I just usually hear GD blaring out of some tinny speakers?
Avatar 3:27am
Eiderdown:

Maybe it's these bad-ass $20 headphones I have on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am
Smilty69:

This was the time of year you mapped out your family vacation around the GD summer tour
Avatar 3:28am
Jeff Conklin:

@Eiderdown: That record has Phil pretty high in the mix, especially on that album because he's pretty much killing it.
Avatar 3:29am
Jeff Conklin:

@Smilty69: Tell us some road tales...First show? Favoriite show attended?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30am
pacific standard simon:

Try listening to the whole "The Other One" side. So much bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am
Smilty69:

Brendan Byrne Arena. Vegas shows from early 90s.
Avatar 3:35am
Jeff Conklin:

@Smilty: Nice
Avatar 3:36am
Eiderdown:

Jeff may recall that I'm a Dead fence-sitter, but it's tracks like that make me realize how good they can be
Avatar 3:38am
Eiderdown:

@Simon: I may just have to check out that "The Other One"...Anthem Of The Sun is a favorite of mine
Avatar 3:39am
Jeff Conklin:

@Eiderdown: Listen to the Other One from the Bickershaw Festival (1972)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40am
pacific standard simon:

The only time I SAW the Dead live was at a mid-70s Day On The Green at Oakland Coliseum, but I had been listening to them on the radio (many live shows) since 1970.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am
Smilty69:

I found the Dead in High School, which was late-eighties. Jerry had his moments, but he was always soulful.
Avatar 3:43am
Jeff Conklin:

I found my dad's copy of Skull & Roses and was intrigued. He set up a turntable for me and his old lava lamp in our basement for me. I was in 6th grade...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44am
pacific standard simon:

VERY COOL DAD AWARD
Avatar 3:45am
Eiderdown:

Jeff, your dad does seem pretty damn cool
Avatar 3:46am
Jeff Conklin:

Yeah, I lucked out in that department. Wharf Rat happens to be his fave Dead tune. He caught Engluishtown and one of the Fall '72 shows in Connecticut. Remembers nothing of them...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47am
Smilty69:

Awesome dad, Jeff
Avatar 3:48am
Jeff Conklin:

He'll see this comments tomorrow and bust my balls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48am
pacific standard simon:

If I had had a kid, I would have done the same (though I would have hoped that you had been more intrigued by a Frank Zappa album).
Avatar 3:49am
Eiderdown:

My distaste/apprehension of the Dead stems from some annoying, over-zealous Dead Head friends of mine in the late 80's as well. But man, I hear that sound, and it takes me back in time for better and worse to certain wood-paneled basements, surrounded by Dead posters, stolen beer, and the smell of shitty Iowa skunk weed
Avatar 3:49am
Eiderdown:

But in retrospect, it's a pretty good memory :)
Avatar 3:50am
Jeff Conklin:

The key to loving the Dead is never ever ever hanging out with Deadheads...
Avatar 3:50am
Eiderdown:

Ha ha, now you tell me!
Avatar 3:51am
Eiderdown:

But I'd wait till everyone was really stoned, and then I'd put on a Residents record. I got my revenge
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52am
pacific standard simon:

True. And my favorite Dead tracks are REDACTED.
Avatar 3:52am
Jeff Conklin:

Don't know if it's a true quote from Bobby or not but I always liked it:

"The worst part about Deadheads is they only listen to the Dead"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53am
Smilty69:

The Bobby documentary on Netflix doesn't have him speaking well of Deadheads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57am
pacific standard simon:

Bobby never sang any covers but hippy/pop/country stuff, so that should tell you something. I always admired his taste.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02am
pacific standard simon:

You could have called it Box Of Bad Weather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13am
pacific standard simon:

The records my father gave to me were accidents, since he was rarely a part of my life after my parents divorced when I was 8. Stan Getz, June Christy, Charlie Byrd.
  4:13am
Stefan:

(going back to Gaughan): ja, very intimate, very relaxed and very serious when it came to post-Thatcherite Scotland; and only Saturday I got my daughter (2nd grade) a lava lamp, but not The Dead for her
Avatar 4:17am
Jeff Conklin:

Very cool, Stefan. I hope to see him perform one day.
Avatar 4:20am
Eiderdown:

It's nice to hear the surface noise on this Rother track...makes it even more melancholy
  4:24am
Stefan:

This is one of the "I bought it when it came out-" posts; after "Flammende Herzen" I picked up other (K)Cluster and Harmonia LPs 2nd hand, and it took me years to appreciate them (or not).
Avatar 4:37am
Eiderdown:

Alright, got to go to bed. Goodnight everyone! Jeff, thanks, always a pleasure!
Avatar 4:42am
Jeff Conklin:

Night, Adam. Thanks for hanging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56am
pacific standard simon:

When will the goddam hearts re-appear?
Avatar 4:58am
Jeff Conklin:

Hearts?
Avatar 5:30am
greysquad:

Hearts? was that a request for "Hearts" by Marty Balin?
Avatar 5:34am
greysquad:

I loved the fact that you played some mother mallard and michael rother earlier because I was listening to both earlier...
Avatar 5:36am
Jeff Conklin:

That's kind of a bummer actually, greysquad. ;)
Avatar 5:40am
greysquad:

kinda, but not really :) (truth be told I listened to mother mallards firsl lp and Harmonia live cd... so your choices where a great complement).
Avatar 5:42am
greysquad:

btw... really looking forward to listening to your marathon premium... it's in the mail now!
  5:44am
lunch:

fred?
  5:45am
George from Gravesend:

if only we could get more hour of music. oh well, until next week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Gee, the school phoned me up to inform me there's a 2-hour delay this morning. Evidently, it's snowing outside.
  5:56am

fred had a csny vibe
Avatar 5:57am

@Lunch: Indeed!

Take care, everybody. Until next time...
