I grew up watching this Ray Stevens comedy tape at my grandparents' house (shop.raystevens.com...) and it's always interesting to hear and enjoy his pop songs with that in the back of my mind. Extremely goofy stuff (though at least it was relatively apolitical).

Back in college, I almost ironically picked up a Merle album. Then, I shortly fell in love w/ the music, and picked up another five. RIP Merle, you were awesome, and genuine. His anti-George W record on Anti Records around 2005 was pretty good as well.

When Merle first got out of jail, Johnny Cash was the only person who would talk to him, and actually had him on hist show, where Merle gave a contrite apology. Pretty heartwarming. You can probably find it on YouTube.
