QUESTION- has Greg Calbi ever entered pop culture? Like a Simpsons appearance? Or thrown out a first pitch? If no, HE SHOULD! - oh, good morning all.
  11:28am
Greg:

Question for your guest - what are the biggest challenges when remastering a catalogue that spans across albums?

Question for Greg Calbi. Was there ever a mastering job that was turned down by the artist, a major disagreement...where you had to go back and start from square 1?

We want to hear the end of the story about telling John Lennon how to record his music!!!!!
Avatar 12:20pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Was the fact he was younger & inexperienced n advantage in a way?
Like - for The Beatles, it was important that they went from Engineer Norman Smith to the younger Geoff Emerick in the psychedelic era. Engineering is not Mastering of course...
Many Artists complained - especially in the Analog era, & early in the Digital era, that things were too Compressed by uptight &/or insensitive Engineers during Mastering (they would want to be sure the highs & lows weren't too great) - all the dynamics flattened out...
Avatar 12:20pm
CDToaster:

The lyrics are rubbish! What song was he recording??? How did it work out??
Avatar 12:24pm
CDToaster:

@Michael Shelly: You interrupted a very interesting story he was telling!!! Luckily, he has an endless supply.
Avatar 12:39pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I would think that fatigue - not being able to hear anything any more - would be a problem in the studio if you're there for some time. Therefore - just another pair of ears you can trust - & especially someone who is is good as 'still hearing' generally would be valuable indeed...
  12:39pm
Dean:

Other engineers/mastering experts: Does he know and if so what does he think of the work of Marc Aubort & Joanna Nickrenz (who worked mostly in classical recording), and Marc Rusch (most of whose work is with C.I.M.P., i.e., "out" jazz)?
  12:42pm
Dean:

HUGE difference in sound between Yes's "Close to the Edge" first pressing and Mobile Fidelity's remaster on vinyl.
