We played a Dairy Queen one afternoon a few years ago. They tried to pay us with Dilly Bars. Jesus. It's not like '61 when I was playing Miami with Vic Dana. That's when I started playing soprano trombone. One night, Vic insisted that my instrument be miked, and that it be processed through this new device he had acquired that was called a Stubbens pedal. The sounds that I achieved with this pedal were overwhelming, literally. The sounds caused people to go unwantedly, and it made them too frisky for polite society. Unfortunately, the Stubbens pedal was destroyed in a flood and its designer, Walt Stubbens, perished, as well. I left Vic soon after and hooked up with Sammy Kaye. We all had such fun back then.
