as it turns out, though, HRC's gender indicates no grand departure from a basically anit-feminist neoliberalism ~ god knows ~ so in her case, Ryab is right.

Christine Jorgensen's "reassignment" surgery was completed some time in the '50s, for crying out loud. I remember reading my mom's copy of the paperback bestseller autobiography in the '60s. By then trans shoulda been old news.

Avatar 6:20pm
Carmichael:

@ryab: ok, I was a little harsh there, sorry.
@linda lee: "anti-feminist neoliberalism" ... I'm not quite sure what that means. Although she is female, her presidency would do nothing to advance "feminist" causes?

Damn straight, Linda Lee.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm

@mink: if you're referring to Hillary I agree, she's not Margaret Thatcher but Thatcher is a good example of how gender shouldn't be a primary concern when choosing a leader.
Avatar 6:28pm
Linda Lee:

@geezerette ~ wish there was a better term for it. but if you want a specific word for the underlying ideology ... that's the one. :-)
Avatar 6:28pm
Carmichael:

I'm wondering why we're all trying to "fix" the fairly powerless position of President. Why don't we all get together and clean out Congress instead?
Avatar 6:29pm
Slick Goldtooth:

I forget the recent figure, but it's something like if the NYPD was a country's military force, it'd be the 27th largest standing army in the world.

I don't feel safer will all these new counter and crowd control units that have ridiculous military grade weaponry and gun mounts on trucks, especially when you got an extremely undisciplined trigger happy police force , that jumps straight for violent action before asking questions.

@melinda, oh sorry I was referring to Theresa May who is set to take over from Cameron. idk about Hillary, do you have any coal mining towns to destroy? I heard she can't even drive which is concerning if she is meant to be a world leader :-/
Avatar 6:32pm
Linda Lee:

@mink ~ we've got 'sacrifice zones'.
  6:32pm
Ryab:

@Carmichael perhaps that is one of the larger issues, which would explain why there is so much focus on the executive branch.
  6:32pm
mink:

not that it should matter. but I feel the US president should be as switched on as possible.

Avatar 6:39pm

@geezerette ~ absolutely understand distrust of technical language. but there's really no other short hand way of describing the dominant ideology. just ain't. & wont' let the Right own the language. because they like to fuck it up by making it inexact.

Love how well rounded the musical selections are, Clay. Never know what to expect next.
  6:43pm
kevlicki:

It's interesting how no one acknowledges the implicit military aggressions with either major political parties candidates. It will take continued military presence to maintain the US empire.
I presume that's why "neoliberal" is thrown at HRC. Woman or not HRC is going to support policies that murder and destroy Middle eastern
Avatar 6:45pm
Linda Lee:

@mink ~ yeah, it's pretty ugly. these are communities that are OK to poison for the sake of industry. human sacrifice, really. in new york, the Dem leadership has pushed for sacrifice for gas extraction. something HRC has pushed for worldwide as SoS.
