Hey All! VOIVODDDDDDD!! @Polyus, no, haven't heard the new BP yet, and we do not have it. At 1 I am playing Part 1 - Pioneers of Punk... this is original interviews from the research for the Please Kill Me Book, with narrating and comments by Michael Des Barres, and authors Gillian McCain and Legs McNeil. A great book if you haven't read it (duh). AND I'm very psyched for Carcass tonight in NYC :) Hope you are all having a great week!

Poly, and Captain Beefheart and King Crimson, and Patti Smith, and Tim Buckley.

( i still think FMU should be a Sirius/XM channel )
  1:42pm
el BO-Bo:

Why is this being transmitted on FMU? Its wonderful but at this point in history this is all commercial BS. Propagating this story to the masses cheapens it, in my opinion. It's making me sad, nostalgic. I miss those days.
  1:45pm
el BO-Bo:

If FMU becomes a Sirius/XFM station, I'll never listen to it ever again. Just sayin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
Michael 98145:

i understand that
Avatar 1:50pm
Cecile:

el Bo-bo, just because it comes from a different, slicker source doesn't mean than it's bad. Doug Schulkind excavated a great, long-forgotten NPR jazz series on John Coltrane and it was wonderful.
Avatar 1:50pm
Cecile:

Also, there are people who don't know the history. More than you think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm

By the time I saw Johansen with Syl Sylvain and, I think, Jerry Nolan, in OC c.1979, they did not make it look easy. They were working hard.
Avatar 1:52pm

but I understand about seeing your past become popular. People parrot stuff about the 80s that is just wrong. Like how it was all fun...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I had a rental car one time with Sirius/XM. A display in the gauges said "Garage" and I couldn't figure out why it was telling me to put the vehicle into some garage. I eventually figured out that the display was the XM info and I was tuned to Little Steven's Underground Garage channel. ¯\(°_o)/¯
Avatar 1:53pm
Alejandroool:

The stories are always good, but yes El BO-bo, the presentation/packaging of these types of docs always cheapens things. However if it inspires any younger generation people to play music/do anything then all the better. I'm an early 80's baby and didn't discover this stuff until late teens. If I had seen/heard any docs like this when I was even younger than that, it woulda been great. Still not a fan of the packaging of these things every time I see a similar doc.
Avatar 1:54pm
Cecile:

I've listened to it in the car. They play some good stuff. I'm not going to chase it down, but its a lot better than Clear Channel.

FMU on sirius would give me a reason to subscribe to sirius... and i agree with Cecile on this one, el BO-Bo... docs have their place. done well, they're like reliving the past.

Thanks, Diane! love the PKM segment!
Avatar 2:01pm

Cecile, you are so right -- so much misinformation out there -- like i have had to explain to more than one young-un that having green hair (for example) would have gotten you thrown outta high school, & if you were older, beaten up, ridiculed, etc. . . . and bands like The Ramones (and The Clash and even The Pretenders) were most definitely NOT considered "classic rock"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm
Michael 98145:

yup, guess so. long time ago.
  2:04pm
el BO-Bo:

Ok. Agree to disagree. Like Cecile says, it wasn't the same way its presented in the docs. Same with the freakin 80's. It makes me feel old and sad that those times are forever gone. Oh well.
  2:04pm

Ford administration, right. One of my one-night-stand bands (Sweet Puddin'heads) did a tune about Nelson Rockefeller, then VP.

@ Cecile -- my ex & i were walking through the town in Union County, NJ where he still lived with his parents, about 1978, i think -- a van pulled up near us (complete with freakin' Confederate flag draped in back window! pretty sure they were blasting some sort of "Southern Rock" too) & started yelling crap at us -- so we both started towards the van, which instantly sped away -- we later found out from my ex's younger brother that they were afraid of us, thought we were going to kill them (!) b/c we were these *evil* "punk rockers" (weird thing was, we were not even looking/dressed that "out there" that day)
