Hello! I just got back from a strenuous hike. A yellowjacket or wasp stung me on the hip, right through my shirt. Another hiker got stung just below his eye. We must have stepped on a nest or something.

Hopefully the clothing offered a bit of protection. I had a yellowjacket incident a few years ago that resulted in 5 different stings, and the ones through my clothes weren't nearly as bad as the direct hits.

Yeah @slugluv, everyone seemed to be fine. Most of the other hikers took Benadryl, but I just took ibuprofen. It still hurts a bit, but it's not too awful. Other than that, it was a nice hike.

I’d also recommend taking a hot bath. The heat basically helps the blood flow more and the wound would heal better. But that’s just me.

Benadryl probably works fine but ugh -- can totally put you to sleep!
i have vague memories (from when i was a kid) of my Grandma and Mom making a paste of baking soda and water, covering the sting's area with it, and allowing the paste to dry -- sure helped with spider bites too!

@slugluv1313: What slugluv1313 is true. Also bentonite clay is a good detoxification tool. Most place it sell it as a digestive aid, but it’s basically an “internal mud mask” so you take some of that, cake it on an infected area and cover it. The stuff soaks up toxins.

was happy to see that they still make this -- the stuff for insect bites, that is
(apparently there is a formula for cold sores??? but i remember my parents always had a bottle of this around for mosquito and other insect/bug bites)
