Hey Jeff and everybody -- perfect jam for some late night graphic design work!

Good morning Jeff & friends. The Dead in Hawaii must have been sick.

Jeff Conklin:

Morning, Smilty69. The legend is the "promoter" of these shows was some rich kid who vowed to give away his fortune at the show...

Nick:

I can't believe you're playing this! I met the son of one of the original members of the Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra last year, and he turned me onto them. So great.
Avatar 3:38am
Jeff Conklin:

Nice, Nick! Did you ask if he had any copies of the records? Kind of hard to find
  3:39am
Nick:

Ah, no, I didn't realize they were hard to find. If I see him again, I'll ask.
Avatar 3:40am
Jeff Conklin:

Is he in LA? I'll be out there next week, I hit as many record shops as I can when I'm there and never see these records....
  3:42am
Nick:

Y'know, I'm not sure if he's still in L.A. I actually had just emailed him recently and didn't hear back. I can email him again for you, if you'd like.
Avatar 3:47am
Jeff Conklin:

Ah, no need to bother him. My time is tight out there anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06am
mariano:

He was quoting from the Baghavad Gita.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am
mariano:

*Bhagavad Gita, spelling! It's this passage: "If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst forth at once in the sky, that would be like the splendour of the Mighty One." Robert Oppenheimer used it upon witnessing the first A-bomb test: "“If the radiance of a thousand suns / were to burst into the sky / that would be like / the splendor of the Mighty One and I am become Death, the shatterer of worlds.”"

At least I think that's what he was reading from, makes sense with the Krishna reference. Guido? My German is sehr schlimm...

The scary German guy was a most interesting soundtrack to our dinnertime.

Tusalava:

I was drifting off and heard you talking about The Intergalactic Thing, particularly the cover. The smudged looking date was an issue with the printing process, and somewhat my fault; the contrast was higher on the original design, but came out dark on the matte surface.

Also, thank you!
Avatar 5:19am
Tusalava:

It IS 1969.

I swear that looked fine on the proof.
Avatar 5:31am

Oh man I wasn't dogging it! It looks kind of cool!

Thanks, Nick, Guido, Ajay and all those who spend time with me on the air. It's a joy and treasure to play you all this music. I'll be back in two weeks
  2:51pm
Jeff:

For west coast spiritual jazz you should look into Black Jazz records.
