Bold to flat-out call yerself 'New Age' - but it could be Eno...
Avatar 6:12am
annie:

i have actually ever heard any Eno that i could identify.is tere a distinction?
Avatar 6:25am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm no particular Eno expert, but I'd say there's his Ambient stuff, like 'Music For Airports', very good - & there's his more Pop~Rawk stuff. I love 'Another Green World'. He's just the Man for sonic textures. Produced many people of course.

annie:

i'll have to give him a listen.... typically, ambient stuff is white noise to me.dependng on what i'm doing while i'm listening, too, is a factor. with all the musical choices out there, though, i rely on a deejay to set my listening stage, so to speak.

it's akin to not wanting to get up and turn the record over...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You could say Eno invented Ambient
...or maybe it was Joe Zawinul (JazzRockFusion w/ Miles Davis: 'In a Silent Way') - or really Saint-Saëns or somebody 'Classical' in the 1st place...

Jeffrey Davison:

New Age was a duo consisting of Suzanne Doucet and Christian Bühner. They had two cassettes in the 80's (not sure if there were more). Doucet went on to become a well-known pop singer and TV host, but she also produced more new age recordings, later on.

annie:

yes, i would think a classical composer would have been the first to branch into the "ambient" genre, albeit, inadvertantly. i like to compare it to the piano-playing volunteers in nursing homes or airports; nothing so serious that it's easy to listen in the back of your head.
Avatar 6:38am
annie:

so, they may have been the impetus for tape decks to have the "repeat" feature, huh?
Avatar 6:39am
annie:

well, fwiw, this has been a wonderful start on this saturday morning.
Avatar 6:55am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or that in the East they've done 'Ambient' for millennia maybe...
Lovely set DJ JD.

... "Asheville Skies".... yes, we have them here; i think the appeal of the sky here is the footprint of the blue ridge

Really liked Hiss Golden Messenger! Actually, this whole set has been fantastic! Thanks.

Anyone else having issues with the webstream? Seems to be down.

maestroso: listening on the app, no problems.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Now here's something: Jaye Bartell being influenced by elements of Leonard Cohen's actual Style - not just covering one of Leonard's actual tunes, removing the humor & understatement - & delivering it w/out any nuance & w/ bombastic melodrama...
Avatar 8:43am
Howard F:

Going to the Brooklyn Flea record fair today, and Merge has a table there, definitely going to ask about Hiss Golden Messenger.

Hard not to hear Harry Nisson's cover of the Randy Newman song

Over last few days maybe, I've had the stream drop out & try to rebuffer; I've had to stop & start it once & then it's fine...
