i was working at the baked beans plant, manually implanting the pigs fat in the mass. suddenly, my hands touched something that was neither pork nor bean based: a human hand. it was attached to a stranger who had suddenly appeared before me. she was new at the beanery. we held hands just a little too long and then we both released each other at the same time. beans everywhere. the beans of human kindness. i was immediately fired for throwing the beans everywhere. but Susan, if you're out there, i want to dedicate a song to you. if you're out there, please find my jacket that i left at the plant and email me.

When I got to my bike, I found it missing the rear wheel. I hiked halfway back to Kingston in my mud shoes carrying the bike. I managed to hitch a ride the rest of the way.
