1981! The year I was in JHS with a teacher who would give us 7" singles for doing good in class and some kid gave me a mixtape whose opening track was Sparks "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us." So yeah... 1981 music!

This is so perfect! I got my FCC license on June 15, 1981. My first slot (and show) was 12am to 4am, and the GM and PD were listening... Next day they gave me - wait for it - WEDNESDAYS 7-10PM (Central). Kismet. So many memories of that huge musty old 19th century building, top floor, windows open, and a record collection to die for. I remember ALL of this stuff! Rock it, EFD. Rock it hard. And don't forget the Stranglers and P-Furs. <3

Cheri Pi, absolutely agree. Actually anything from 77 to 82 was awesome. I just have a really soft spot for '81, for reasons previously explained.

Time for this geezer to go to bed and maybe dream of seeing PiL at the Channel. Great show, thanks EFD.

Evan, Ginger is on one of PIL's albums if it's not Flowers of Romance.

ginger was on the abominable, just for the sake of income album.

According to Wikipedia it's these 4 tracks from 'ALBUM' that Ginger Baker played the drums on: Fishing, Round, Bags, Ease.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm

yeh, i'm not sure how that qualifies as a pil album.

They could be classified as John Lydon solo albums after the original line-up of PIL broke apart.

I was 5 in 1981, and I wouldn't know anything that wasn't on MTV Top 40 until I was 16. (I was a late bloomer).

@melinda & northguineahills:

fortunately, even 1980's top 40 was awesome.

My theory is that Hitler hasn't been killed by time travelers because everybody's using their time machines to go clubbing in the 80's.

@MaryWing: Money is good. Please donate folks! $81 is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm

@bkd69: I have great memories of early 80s top 40, not so much later, but by then I was seeking out 60s rock & folk, so I had alternatives.
  11:47pm
bkd69:

@efd: well, if you're not going to play the cramps, the dynamic hepnotics is an acceptable substitute.

And there's a show theme, for you...cover bands you've never heard...bands that are nigh indistinguishable from their more famous stylistic kin.

oh evan, i'm so looking forward to the singles going 70s show, how cool is that? i'll be tuning in on the 26th! well night for real!

My defense of 80's top 40:

the 80's were the last decade a rockabilly song was in the top 40
The last decade Irving Berlin had a song in the top 40
the last decade Herbie Hancock had a song in the top 40
the last decade Slade had not one, but two songs in the top 40
