I've heard that too, LD. I remember that Iggy Pop was also really influenced by a George Abdo belly dancing record. People just trying to leave the normative western styles are drawn outward, even if they use it in a hard-to-identify way

i'd like some bongos too. i sold mine for $35. when i left nj 15 years ago. my plan was to camp upstate 'till the winter then live in my car and head west. 'got rid of most of my stuff.

@melinda: I used to play sax in my room at my place in Boston... there was this weird dude who would come around with a trumpet and stand in the alleyway and play along. Both of us were, uh, "avant garde" and together it was just the sound of rusty squiggles. I never even saw him I don't think

they buried themselves in the mix a lot, but there's a lot of psych/library style stuff getting added to this. it's not at all the ethnographic thing it sort of seems to be. Might have like Marc Chantereau and guys like that on it, but I'm not sure

There was a set of bongos at my grandmother's house that I wish I had now. They must have belonged to my older cousins who lived with her for a while (there were other odd things around the house, like troll dolls, which must have come from the same era).
