Hi Sheila, did you see that article about how the best sound system in NYC is at the bumper cars in Coney Island? It was set up by a DJ in the 70s... very well might have been that guy. There's an NYTimes article about it from a year or so ago.
  3:34pm
JakeGould:

Sound in NYC is such crap. It's like everyone fours to Guitar Center, get basic crap and put them on this poles and then call it a day.

was it tubes or solid state

Yes! The El Dorado bumper cars have an amazing sound system.

I read that article also and thought the whole concept was long overdue. I agree with mod chick. Also there was a remark about how much sound is missing from the earbuds that everyone craves.

Cliff in Prague:

Ken seems to like those female Russian musicians, huh.
  3:41pm
JakeGould:

FWIW, there was some guy in Willets Point in Queens who built his own sound system in a van. He'd drive it to empty lots, open up the back and then... Party! But I read about him when he got busted. So hey.

One of the two things that I wish I could get back in my life was my dad's 1960s Zenith stereo console. (He got rid of it in the 90s). Apart from being Danish Modern Gorgeous, it had the warmest sound I've ever heard. Records sounded AMAZING. Growing up listening to that, I just thought that was how records/vinyl sounded. My turntable now sure doesn't sound like that. Nothing does. I would give anything for that stereo.
