  12:10pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

Now I know where I'm going for lunch!!! Nothing's better than this song!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Rich in Washington:

Isn't the VP Renaissance album their 'New Wave' record?
Avatar 12:13pm Joe B:

Greetings all! thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 12:13pm Joe B:

Hey VP and Blues!

ha Cheryl, sorry for planting the seed!
Avatar 12:14pm Joe B:

Hi Rich, it is indeed. Check out Food Fight, should be on the youtubes
  12:16pm RussB:

Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Rich in Washington:

That song's nuts. I need to buy that album.
Avatar 12:17pm Joe B:

hey Russ!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

hallo
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Nate K.:

Interesting, that track sounded different from other tracks by the Jacuzzi Boys I've heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm chris:

JoeB, that Jacuzzi Boys track rocks!
  12:18pm Amy:

I love obsolete songs about telephones!
  12:18pm RussB:

What up Joe, Joe Jr!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

something I relatively recently learned about my wife: Beatles covers drive her crazy. In fact, most cover versions of previously popular songs really bother her.
I love them. The more different from the original the more I like them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

learned this trying to make a huge shared playlist of music to stream through the household.
Avatar 12:27pm PKNY:

@Joe - it's not on that Let It be comp, but Junior Parker also does a great version of "Taxman".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm misterpickles69:

What does Black America have against Ringo?
  12:42pm Stevel:

Blind Shake is one of the best bands I've seen live, maybe ever.
Avatar 12:43pm Joe B:

agreed!
Avatar 12:50pm Joe B:

Good question mr pickles. I guess no one wanted to cover Dont pass me By
Avatar 12:50pm Joe B:

PKNY, thanks for the heads up! i will look for that!
Avatar 12:51pm Joe B:

I'm with you Rich.
Avatar 12:52pm Scraps deSelby:

h'lo.

i might not be able to live with a person who hates covers. i so love them, and my distress would be evident.
Avatar 12:53pm Joe B:

Great point nate, not typical for them. I agree Chris!
Avatar 12:53pm Joe B:

Hi Amy and Uncle Michael!
Avatar 12:54pm Joe B:

Same here Scraps
Avatar 12:58pm Scraps:

In the pre-rock era, it was common to have several takes on the same song competing. Of course, in the pre-rock era, the writers and the performers were mostly different.
  12:58pm Bluesman:

The Radio Birdman documentary people promise no Bono or Grohl commentary! Hallelujah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm misterpickles69:

Covers are healthy for music.
Avatar 1:00pm Scraps:

yes!
Avatar 1:03pm Scraps:

"Baby Don't Scold Me" is an awesome title
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm doctorjazz:

Great track, this Springfield, don't recall it...
Avatar 1:04pm Scraps:

ha a beatles lick
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm misterpickles69:

"When I get to the bottom..." oh wait
Avatar 1:05pm Joe B:

yeah copping day tripper was all the rage in 1966!
Avatar 1:05pm Joe B:

great news Bluesman!
  1:06pm Figures of Light:

It's so nice to hear Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing!
  1:06pm Amy:

OK, now I feel even older than usual. But it's worth it for a Buffalo Springfield set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm doctorjazz:

Now, "...Clancy", that I know.
Avatar 1:06pm Joe B:

Scraps, yeah multiple labels would rush out a version of a song that was catching on
Avatar 1:06pm Scraps:

This is my fav buffalo springfield song... thank you!
  1:07pm Amy:

Might be mine too. So good!
  1:08pm Bill in W.O.:

Loved Richie Furay singing. The excesses of 70's "country-rock" shouldn't obscure RF's talents.
Avatar 1:09pm Scraps:

i like 70s excesses. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm doctorjazz:

And a great cover of Burned, great set!
  1:13pm mary:

Every week, I'm so happy to remember when it's monday and your show is on.
Avatar 1:15pm geezerette:

Hallo!
Love "Sit Down..." , lopsidediness.
Avatar 🎸 1:16pm Joe McG:

Love the "Rainy Day" LP, thanks, Joe. Loving the set of Buffalos.
  1:16pm Amy:

Avatar 1:17pm Scraps:

it's snowing in Seattle.
Avatar 1:18pm geezerette:

Scraps,how great! First of season?
  1:19pm 666:

I'm an asshole
Avatar 1:20pm Scraps:

yup.

i'm not happy, myself, because if it sticks, i can't go out. (my right-side paralysis.)
  1:20pm 666:

WFMU censors assholes like me
  1:21pm 666:

I'm a disgusting macho pig.
  1:22pm KP:

Miriam too! Incredible set
Avatar 1:22pm geezerette:

I'm sorry Scraps. Do you still have PT?
  1:22pm Bill in W.O.:

Was that a "Mr. Soul" riff at the beginning of "Leave?"
Avatar 1:26pm Scraps:

it's all right, geezerette. i forget what PT is, but eight years ago i had a stroke, and some of the effects look like they're permanent. i'm mostly used to it, but snow is an irritant. ;-)
Avatar 1:26pm geezerette:

Was never a Buffalo Springfield fan, gotta go back & listen. Missed out!

Lou Rawls! Wow! Show-bizzy but great!
Avatar 1:26pm Scraps:

oh, lou rawls!
  1:30pm Bill in W.O.:

Way cool set, Joe
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Matt F:

Staple Singers also do a really good version of For What It's Worth, uh, FWIW.
Avatar 1:36pm Scraps:

The first time I heard There Goes My Baby was Yo La Tengo. Then I went back....
Avatar 🎸 1:38pm David Shortell:

In case it hasn't been mentioned, the Blind Shakes are playing Sunday at the Saint (601 Main St, Asbury Park, NJ).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:39pm chris_in_space:

Joe, does Stills ever get any worse than in the opener for his 1978 album Thoroughfare Gap? I'm talking about his foray into disco, "You Can't Dance Alone".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Michael 98145:

Hope has such an unmistakable voice ..
  1:40pm melinda:

@scraps: me too
Avatar 1:40pm Carmichael:

Heya Joe and listeners. Great covers, keep 'em comin'!
Avatar 1:41pm geezerette:

alligator lizards...
Avatar 1:41pm Joe B:

Chris that's a bad one though the Right By You Lp with Jimmy page from 1983 might be even worse! (yet i own both!)
Avatar 1:42pm Joe B:

  1:56pm Amy:

I adore Ultimate Painting. Thanks, Joie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Planet Tyler:

I think Ultimate Painting likes Galaxie 500 a bit
Avatar 1:57pm geezerette:

loving this set, it's canceling out my caffeine.
Avatar 🎸 1:57pm David Shortell:

All this VU talk is reminding me of a track I once heard "The Hound" play on his WFMU program years ago. It was allegedly last-legs Yardbirds performing "Waiting For the Man" live somewhere. Horrible sound quality, and I wasn't convinced of its authenticity. I haven't heard it since.
  1:57pm melinda:

Hi geeze
  1:58pm Dennis Diken:

digging the heck out of the show Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Planet Tyler:

COS IT IS's LUNA lol
  2:00pm melinda:

I wish I could attend the VU tribute w/YLT and D and B.
  2:00pm Amy:

Er, I meant to thank Joe, not Joie. I don't know who Joie is. :-/
  2:02pm melinda:

But this set is the next best thing, keep it comin'!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:02pm chris_in_space:

Maybe one day you can do a set of terrible Stephen Stills tracks. Would be amazing.
Avatar 2:04pm Joe B:

chris it might start with my angel from the CSNY 1974 live album
Avatar 2:04pm Joe B:

Hey everyone! Great set! I can't wait to catch up in the archives. I know there are a few former radio people who tune in. Does anybody know anybody over at WNYC?
  2:19pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

re: Jason Ringenberg's "Tuskegee Pride": and you don't like the Band . . .
Avatar 2:20pm Joe B:

who said i don't like the band?
  2:24pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

Just funnin' based upon that long thread elsewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm paul b:

I really liked that Tuskegee song, then I looked at the play list and saw it was by that Jason and the Nashville Scorchers guy. Always like them too
  2:26pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

I'm with you Paul B.--always good to hear Ringenberg/Scorchers.
Avatar 2:26pm Joe B:

ah! gotcha DK! i did chime in on that, and it may have come across that i was band bashing but i was just against people who confused their opinion as fact
  2:29pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

That seems to be in the wind these days--opinion as fact. It's affecting everything we love (and hate). Sorry if I misread or wrongly painted you in a corner--I thoroughly enjoyed scrolling through it all but didn't give it the usual "laser-like focus" that I apply to most things. Haha. As always, your show is brightening my afternoon.
  2:33pm johnk77:
