Doug Schulkind:

Can barely hear ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
fred:

Hello Jason and Doug and others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Doug Schulkind:

No, it was the Ethiopian music. Could hear it only waaay in the background.
Avatar 3:05pm
Scraps:

there we go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
Doug Schulkind:

Your mic level was fine, but the music is way too low.
Avatar 3:07pm
Jason Elbogen:

Hey Doug... The Ethiopian music is my bed music;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Doug Schulkind:

But it was running without anything else and was inaudible! And the current music level is still too low.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
Jeff Golick:

Doug has hearing loss from living in headphones since 1980, is what he's trying to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Jeff Golick:

(Actually, the bed music at the very top was pretty low. Rockin' now, however.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Jeff Golick:

@fred! How goes?
Avatar 3:18pm
V Priceless:

greetings all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
fred:

@Jeff: Pretty well, though not all the way back yet. But I had to retire my WFMU bag because it was messing with the scar
Avatar 3:25pm
Jason Elbogen:

Fred--I'll have the powers-that-be look into making you a custom (scar-friendly) bag.
Avatar 3:28pm
Jesse K:

An big hello Jason!
  3:29pm
Dean:

The sticker reads, "Do not read this sticker with a straight face."
Avatar 3:34pm
Jason Elbogen:

hey Jesse, how're you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Jeff Golick:

@fred: sorry to hear about the bag/scar thing, but glad to see you 'round these parts.
Avatar 3:38pm
Jesse K:

I'm good, trying to finish up and leave work for the weekend. Got some records in the mail today so there's a reason to go into work. Digging this Sri Lankan record that I've never heard of before!
  3:42pm
Ramblin' Ray:

Making that darbukka talk...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
fred:

@Jeff: I'll probably miss Sunday's show. I'm well enough to be out of excuses to lazily stay home all day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Jeff Golick:

You say "lazily stay home all day" like it's a bad thing, @fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
fred:

@Jeff: Running out of excuses is the bad thing there
  4:06pm
Dean:

Heh, I vigorously stay home all day when I can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
Jeff Golick:

I am fond of saying, "Well, it's nice in here, too" to outdoor invitations. This "Club Paris" is sweet, btw. Pronounced "clooob" sans doute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
fred:

I saw Delacave a few years ago and wasn't convinced. This track makes me think it's high time for me to see them again
Avatar 4:29pm
Jason Elbogen:

Yeah, Fred, I think so, too. They're from your part of the world, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
fred:

Based on the lineup of that gig, I'd say they're from eastern France
  4:32pm
Dean:

My wife and eldest kid attend services at our neighborhood Catholic church. I have no religious aspirations--except when I'm shrieking, "Jesus fucking Christ," which is often--but I can commend the church's musical offerings. (See what i did there?) So much less vapid (albeit pleasantly so) than the stuff on the playlist today. I mean, I've closed my eyes and felt like I was hearing a live performance by Trespass-era Genesis.
  4:52pm
Dean:

Okay, "vapid" these last two tracks ain't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
fred:

Indeed, Delacave seems to be related to the "Triple alliance de l'est". So they're probably from eastern France, and friends of friends (I stopped trying to keep up with who plays in which project years ago)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
coelacanth∅:

crap. finally somebody on wfmu played delacave and i missed it?
crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
coelacanth∅:

...and, hello.
  4:55pm
Ramblin' Ray:

Extraordinary sounds. (Kacapi Orkest)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
fred:

Is The True Vine related to Ian Nagoski?
Avatar 4:57pm
Jason Elbogen:

Yeah, Fred. those are his comps from his collection
Avatar 4:57pm
Jason Elbogen:

he was selling CD-Rs a few years back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
coelacanth∅:

am liking this rootsy asian stuff though
Avatar 5:00pm
Jason Elbogen:

actually i correct that; I don't kow if Ian Nagoski himself was selling the CDRs, but I got them from the True Vine record store in Maryland that he was associated with...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm
fred:

@Jason: I know, I bought three from him at a show years ago. That how I got interested in 78 reissues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm
fred:

@Jason: Now, you know. Google says he played at Instants Chavirés in 2008, so he was selling them back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
fred:

@coelacanth: How did you know about Delacave? (and hello too)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
Jeff Golick:

Bye-ya! Good weekends all, and stay safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
coelacanth∅:

hey fred, it was via Seb Normal, via vaisseau spatial, which has a member who bought my music via bandcamp. i love "delacave" and "run straight to them and grunt"...in fact mine is the review under the eponymous album on bandcamp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
fred:

@coelacanth: small world indeed
@Jason: I haven't seen them, but it looks like Les Croisières Dolori features Armelle from Heimat and Badaboum, and formerly The Dreams, and a bunch of other projects (see why I stopped trying to keep track?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
fred:

I guess you'd be alive after being ressurected
Avatar 5:37pm
Jason Elbogen:

Can anybody guess which Fall song uses the exact same bass chords?
Avatar 5:38pm
Jason Elbogen:

I guess that's actually 'bass notes', not chords, eh?
  5:39pm
Dean:

To answer your question directly, yes, *somebody* can guess (perhaps even correctly!) the Fall song.
Avatar 5:42pm
Jason Elbogen:

In the future Google will give us the answer before we can guess.
Avatar 5:42pm
Jason Elbogen:

'Guessing' will be quaint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
coelacanth∅:

fred, do you know members of any of those bands, or seb normal? (i know it's a longshot but, as you said - small world. maybe you live in nantes?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
coelacanth∅:

(...or cobonne?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
fred:

@coelacanth: I don't think so, but I'm pretty sure they're at least friends of friends. The scene isn't that big (and France isn't big either), so people know each other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
coelacanth∅:

well it sure opened up a portal for me... i'm sure i've bought at least a couple dozen releases as a result of that original association.
by the way, how's your healing coming?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
fred:

Slowly but steadily, thanks for asking. I'm at the point where the main risk is feeling too good for my own sake and doing something stupid. Knowing myself, doing something stupid is a very real possibility, nay, almost a sure bet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
coelacanth∅:

i can relate so i know the protocol smalltalk advice is stupid so - Good Luck!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Jason
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm
fred:

Isn't Bronwyn the OG of this on the station?
Anyway, thanks Jason, hear you next week
  11:55pm
DW:

Wow, thanks for playing the Halloween song from the "Sing Holiday" album - it's a fun one, and I've wanted to hear that for a while.
