"Ou sont donc", pas "On sont donc...."

Merci Rob't, corrected. I never get sick of Francis Bebey, I must say...

The things Albert Kuvezin can do with (or is it to?) his vocal cords...no wonder a style of kargyraa is named after him!

Listener Robert:

You pronounced it OK. "Where, Then, Are the Faces?"

amazing resonance in the Yat-Kha! truly an inspiration, no synth can even come close to that

Hi Dan! Let's clear our throats for the new year!

Listener Robert:

"Mien" & "bien" are an exception to the usual French way of practically abolishing the "n" sound from "-en". It's almost as if they were "mienne" & "bienne" under their usual spelling-pronunciation rules, but not quite. So the "n" sound is cut short, but not practically abolished as they do with other words.
  7:22pm
Listener Robert:

Also, the "e" in "mien" & "bien" doesn't sound like an English "uh" the way it would with "en" in French.

Shooby is so great.

Shooby!

Listener Robert:

For an example ripped from the headlines, the "pen" in "Le Pen" is pronounced almost exactly as in English.

Dan Bodah:

Man, I am never gonna get how to pronounce French -- but for genealogy research, I've gotten pretty adept at reading it in handwritten parish registers from the 1500s!
  7:35pm
Listener Robert:

I wondered how they pronounced "Putin" -- would it be like "poutain", which would be an insult, or like "poutine", which would be understood by Quebecers as a joke. Turns out they pronounce it the same as we would.
  7:42pm
Listener Robert:

While my pronunciation's pretty good, my vocabulary's not so hot. "Ou sont donc les miens?" means "Where, then, are mine?" Nothing to do with faces, which I'd taken as synecdoche for persons.

Ike:

I love hippie noise! I wish we could have hippie noise in the morning but I'm sure it'll end up being either Jonesy or Clay Pigeon, playing Milli Vanilli and Chicago and GNR instead. Oh well.
