Pete usually played all instruments on his demos. Sparks a lot of debate as to whether Pete played like Keith on his demos, or whether Keith played like Pete on the Who recordings.

That certainly sounds like solo Townshend.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Sat. 1/28/17 11:26am Listener Baby:

Clarke.. Pete had three things: Want to, resources, and huge talent. All those make for some inspiration.
  Sat. 1/28/17 11:26am Clarke:

however - to say that keith played like pete is NOT a stretch! as moon had to 'get it in gear' for the Quad sessions - he basically had to mimic townshend's drum parts to not get his ass fired.
Avatar Sat. 1/28/17 11:27am Frank Above:

Pete didn't play as well as Keith, but some of the Who's Next/Quad demos, Pete is definitely doing drum stuff that is Keith-esque.

Basically what Clarke said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 1/28/17 11:28am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...he composed to his orchestra...Keith was not conventional - they say he never practiced - but his lifestyle was perhaps practice to play like that; like - he'd have to relearn to play every time the band worked...Mad!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Sat. 1/28/17 12:10pm Daddy-o Dilly:

About warm-up acts with poor attitudes. Example: Las Vegas, mid 1970s. Roger Miller opens for Flip Wilson. Final show of a multi-week gig. Miller was already mentally on the plane out of town. Kept rubbing his face and looking at the ceiling. Clearly wanted it to all be over. If he was ill, all could be forgiven. But there was a drunk farmer from Arkansas in the audience who was just way too loud and wouldn't shut up. Roger pointed at him and told him to shut up or get thrown to the street. Security guards surrounded him and he did pipe down. Miller's complaint here justified. But wow, just really sourassed. The mood was dampened and it was clearly a challenge for Flip Wilson. Flip handled the matter with aplomb. He even spoke to the drunk in his act which got the guy to behave himself. I don't think he was a plant.

i come from the school of if you don't start your set on time, you don't get to play a full set. which should be fine for an opening act, anyway. i guess the trouble comes in when the opening act thinks THEY should be headlining.

i can testify that as a performer it is (most times) a lot more fun to be the opener (on a good bill) - you get a short set done and get down the real drinking!!

Rockpile and NRBQ I first saw as openers--and rocked my world. Still huge fan of both.

1st saw BillyBragg - of whom I was ignorant - open for Bunnymen. Some guy up there just an acoustic filling the space w/ energy. Noted. Didn't know Elvis was opening for Dylan last I saw him. Nice surprise, Thx!

Why do you delete, censor, or alter listener comments?

There are a lot of reasons I do that Scott - but I didn't edit any during this show - why do you ask?

Best opening band I saw that I'd never heard of was Hacienda, from Texas. The keyboard player was channeling Augie Meyers, they were jaw-droppingly fantastic.
