Thank you, @listener james. I have never taken valium/atavan/etc. in my life, but am feeling the tug...

Jeff, the rarest commodity sometimes during weeks like this is sleep. If you can score a decent amount of that, it'll count for a lot come next weekend.

Hey, Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am

Holler, @Gary! Hi, how you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am

Seeing james' reference to the bat mitzvah; just heard of Adam Wests' demise.
"Robin pass me the shark repellent" says Batman as he hangs from a helicoper rope ladder with a shark attached.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:50am

Wow, a couple of years ago Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker opened a dance show on this Eno track, looped a few times. I had never heard it before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: which original version was that?
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:51am

This and Before & After Science are my favourite of his vocal stylings.

AnotherGreenWorld. Just - yeah.
I'm aware of UK Politics thru BBC comedy podcasts - NewsQuiz, NowShow, NewsJack. Recommended. Oh - & there's the incomparable Jonathan Pie...
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:53am

@Jeff: Lullaby, and the Ri-Ra song is actually called Maybe Tomorrow. It's Irish hip-hop using a Lullaby loop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am
Jeff Golick:

Oh nice. I'll have to check that. Thx.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:55am

Animal Collective's performance of this track at a Primavera Sound Festival a few years back was amazing.

Love this new T-Rex. Nice the way they slowed things down a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am
Jeff Golick:

HA! Hi, @UM. Yeah, remember the Aughts? Those were some crazy days.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:03am
fred:

I got that track on Billy Jam's 2006 premium
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:03am
Uncle Michael:

If you can remember the aughts...yeah, you were probably there.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:07am
fred:

@UM: Wanting to remember them is another story (though I'm more focused on pretending the 80's never happened)
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:09am
Brian in UK:

Some of the 70s were a bit vague. It was mainly black & white.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:10am
Uncle Michael:

The '80s might be the only decade where all of the nostalgia takes the piss. Will there ever be any earnest, sincere embrace of '80s culture, other than as pertains to hip hop culture?
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:15am
fred:

@UM: There was over here, a few years ago, as 30-somethings got into nostalgia for before they were born (puzzling to me, but it always happens here). I was alive at the time, and apart from hip-hop I can't think of anything to embrace
  11:16am
Dean:

Holland performs a Braxton track on an ECM solo outing, Emerald Tears. Saw a used copy of it yesterday, but the cover was kinda beat up, so I passed. Know it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
Jeff Golick:

Hi, @Dean! I do not know it!
Avatar 11:18am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There was all kinds of great Rawk in the 80s - the early Indie & Alt & NeoPsych - not entirely away from the Top40, but lots of it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am
Jeff Golick:

@UM: I find it hard to imagine that any decade can escape the commodifying influence of the nostalgia biz.
  11:20am
Dean:

I miss the days when nostalgia wasn't an industry.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Uncle Michael:

I'm nostalgic for them too, Dean.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:22am
Uncle Michael:

Hogan's Heroes ruined everything.
Avatar 11:22am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but then the embrace of the worst part of the 80s - by yeah often people who didn't have to live thru it...well - when did I ever get Society...For that matter - 90s Grunge has become a fixed style now - amongst demographics who woulda been appalled @ the time I think...but then I live in NewHampshuh which is historically disconnected...
Avatar 11:24am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...my older brother had stories of getting grief for carrying a Kiss album - fags w/ makeup - & later all that sort were KissArmy - twas ever thus...
  11:25am
Dean:

Lots of things, surely, but not everything, UM! Good beer, for example. And without HH would we have Residents' Third Reich and Roll?
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:27am
Uncle Michael:

A salient point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am
Jeff Golick:

Simon Reynolds has an interesting book on the recycling of sounds in pop music - RETROMANIA. Sort of about how nostalgia can kill the impulse to create new/original work. But better than I'm describing here. I didn't fully buy his argument, but it's hard to fault his examples.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:34am
fred:

I was too harsh, I can think of three bands whose records I liked then and still like now: New Order, PiL, and The Pogues
  11:37am
Dean:

Bought my copy of News from the 70s c.1999 at DMG. Still sealed. That's what I call anti-nostalgia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
Jeff Golick:

Yup.

I'm making the last short set all 1980s.
Avatar 11:40am
northguineahills:

I got my News from the 70s also in '99, but in Park Ave Recs in Winter Park, FL.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:43am
fred:

I guess I'm more ashamed of myself at the time than of the decade
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:46am
listener james from westwood:

You want nostalgia, when I see the initials DMG, I think of when I bought the first-edition Dungeon Masters Guide at Toys R Us in 1980.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:48am
fred:

@james: at some point later on I had a T-shirt made with the cover of the second edition DMG. It might still be around somewhere
  11:49am
Dean:

I often confuse Meat Puppets and Minutemen, not least because they were both SST, as here.
Avatar 11:49am
northguineahills:

@fred: Even James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) penned in 2002 "To all the kids in Tokyo and Berlin
I'm losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered Eighties" (from "Losing my Edge")
