Sem and Dean, reminds me of Supernatural.

Love this Skolvan.

Dean:

@doctorjazz: I'm six disks into the Brain box. The sixth disk includes some of the odd duck bands, the non-Krautrock ones, e.g., Gryphon and Tasavallan Presidentti, both of whom I happen to love. Sound remains impressive. Hope to hear the first of the two live disks tonight.

You're way ahead of me, Dean, have listened to the 1st 2 (and some of that going to bed, which usually means falling asleep after a song or 3, with in ear headphones and my Pono). Too much music, too little time (not to mention work, family, puppy, etc etc...)
KLEZMER TIME! always makes me smile.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
doctorjazz:

Dave Tarras, the Charlie Parker of Klezmer!
(just realized, David, you may not have the Supernatural TV series available there. Though these days, most everything should be available with some connection or other).

Not sure I'd recommend it, my teenage daughter was obsessed with it (and had a crush on Dean, I'm sure)...it's going into its 14th season (even my daughter says it was downhill after season 5). I've seen all the first 5 seasons keeping her company basically, it's fun in a gory, spooky music/ghost sort of way.

Taarab sounds like it borrows styles from all over the place. Distinctly Sudanese swirling going on and was that an accordian in there somewhere?

leipzig sieht sehr symmetrisch aus auf den fotografien...und besonders der leuschnerplatz hat natürlich auch gewisse symmetrien...aber zumindest die musik ist ja schön schräg! my favourite so far: geula gill... but as a punk fan i must ask for some richard hell or something...

Stanley: Yes, I love that Zanzibar sound fed by all the cultures sweeping down the African coast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm

Hilmar: Don't worry, less symmetrical views of Leipzig will surely follow in coming weeks! But everyone wanted to see our "subway" so I threw in our "skyscraper" for good measure.

Dean:

FYI, re the Dvořák recital, James A. Altena wrote in his review in Fanfare, "As other critics before me have lamented in these pages, the songs of Antonin Dvořák remain unjustly neglected, partly due to the unfamiliarity of the Czech language and partly due to a longstanding prejudice that alleges his writing for piano to be clumsy and unidiomatic. That is a terrible shame, for perhaps only Schubert surpasses Dvořák as a natural melodist, and whenever they are given the opportunity to be heard the Czech master’s songs immediately win one’s heart with their radiant, innocent beauty and immediate infectiousness."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
David D:

Thanks, Dean - as a great fan both of Dvořák and his language, I wholeheartedly agree.

Hah -- a song about gold rushes. I was just reading up on a terrific docum I just saw, "Dawson City Frozen Time" about the intersection of movies, the Klondike gold rush and the advancement of the 20th century. Must see stuff for history and/or silent movie buffs.
