This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hey, Flash!
Looks like a good show coming up!

Hey Doc! I think it should be good, but then again I adore Robert Wyatt

Flash Strap:

By way of explanation:

Tonight in the Explorers Room, we celebrate the surprise success of Corbyn in the UK – and the broader, hopefully hopeful implications that result has for left politics going forward – by spending an evening with the music of Robert Wyatt. I probably would have done this show regardless of the electoral outcome; it's a necessary tonic in victory or defeat. In 1972, Wyatt asked, "how long can I pretend that music's more relevant than fighting for a socialist world?" The music resulting from that conundrum gives us an invaluable vision of socialist-informed art: not only steadfastly political, unflinchingly critical, and committed to the cause of human emancipation, but also absurdist, experimental, endlessly playful, romantic, and deeply personal. Tonight we'll hear from a variety of Wyatt's solo and collaborative projects, both political and poetic (as if the two weren't one). Tune in and hear He of the Great Voice.

I have been dealing with a hospitalized father that past 10 days. Things were looking really crappy. On Sunday afternoon, I had the "It's time to start thinking about hospice" conversation with the doctor. By Monday evening, my father was awake with eyes open and talking from a chair. A fairly miraculous transformation. Just moved him to skilled nursing rehab today. A whirlwind.

That kind of sanctuary.

Doug, that is good news.

This here is some of the best work on the complex nature of love and partnership, and the inherent limitations of language to express the intensely personal, ever. The second part where Alfie (his wife) rejoinders is just, completely amazing and moving. even though it's in gibberish

I think it's Gary Windo on sax. Also, the great South African trumpeter Mongezi Feza plays on this record.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:24pm

Feza played on the "Little Red Riding Hood" tune.

Listening to Wyatt makes me weepy. My friend Michael King was close to the man and wrote the book Wrong Movements: A Robert Wyatt History. King took his life two years ago, and I am still madsadmadsadmadsad.

Avatar 7:54pm
Flash Strap:

There are degrees of amnesia, ways to forget
Ways to remember all the good that you've done
And if you can't get a witness remind yourselves
Nobody's just perfectly good all the time
And if you killed all those redskins long, long ago
Well, they'd all be dead now anyway, anyway
Don't let that ghost disconcert you – the lord will provide
A nice little headstone for the brave Cherokee

So let's have no reservations, let's have a clean sweep
Clearing the way for the land of the free
Let's hear it for civilisation once more
Build your aryan empire in peace

Mongezi Feza died right after that LP, in 1975. It really shook Wyatt up and contributed to a lull in solo output. His contributions to Rock Bottom and Ruth is Stranger than Richard are invaluable
