Hi David; Crazy World of Arthur Brown cover, always loved the original, cool cover!

Greetings Melinda and Doctorjazz - please excuse the bumpy start!

It's chilly and rainy but humid in NYC, and more to the point, for some reason it's still Monday in my office.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
David D:

Parq, that is an odd weather pattern - especially in your office!
  4:46pm
Dean:

True story: After my band played an LA punk venue c.1978/79, Stan (or was it Marc?) of WoV called to ask us to open for their upcoming show at Madame Wong's. We of course accepted. And then we broke up before the show.

And a star was never born...coulda been it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
David D:

Amazing - sorry it didn't turn out better. What was the name of your band?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
Parq:

Dean, so who opened for Wall?
  4:51pm
Dean:

My band for that appearance would have been M (not the "Pop Music" guy). If I remember correctly--and I have a flyer somewhere to confirm this--the bill was M, Mau-Maus, Wall of Voodoo. Well, shoot, here's the flyer: https://www.flickr.com/photos/33135085@N02/28433475315/lightbox/

Oops. Was Hong Kong Cafe. Both in Chinatown in LA.

Racing off to my first class of the new semester. Thanks for doing that marathon show last week, DD!

Cool-my college band played 1 sweet sixteen, and a gig in the student center, then poof. (we were really bad)

Here's somebody asking FIFTY BUCKS!!! for our one and only record: http://www.musicstack.com/item/111599673
  4:54pm
Dean:

@doctorjazz: "Really bad" ain't the half of it. Brendan Mullen, proprietor of the Masque, once introduced us as "the ultimate in embarrassment rock."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
David D:

My pleasure, Doug! And good luck with your semester...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
Parq:

I was wondering when Doug's new semester would start -- ace 'em, Doug!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:01pm
doctorjazz:

Good luck Doug!
(really bad was being kind...)
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
doctorjazz:

@Dean-you're collectable!
  5:08pm
Dean:

It's collectible purely as a silly musical curiosity. More interesting, though, is the fact that it's Flipside's first record issue. The label went on to produce many more records and videos. You've heard of Beck? One of his early records was on Flipside.
  5:10pm
Dean:

Loving this. Here's our discog page: https://www.discogs.com/M-Espionage-Baby/release/9862168

That's me, second from the back.
  5:11pm
Dean:

Planets are aligning today. Yesterday I promised Joe McGasko I'd hunt down some early Go-Go's live stuff. Buddy of mine is sharing it in Dropbox with me right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm
David D:

Wow, that sure looks collectable! Have you collected a copy for yourself at least?
  5:14pm
Dean:

I have a handful remaining of the original 200. Gave away a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Parq:

That's pretty impressive, Dean. My old band was more like Dr. Jazz's -- a college lark. There are only maybe six people who would remember it -- and the band itself had something like ten people in it over a couple of years.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Stanley:

Hi David. Listening but not commenting
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:29pm

Until now
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm

(@Parq-you mean 4 people that were IN the band wouldn't remember it? You guys were really enjoying yourselves...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
David D:

Thanks for being there, Stanley, and happy to hear from you!
  5:43pm
Dean:

Fanfare's James H. North on this performance and recording of the Suite: "purely sensual ... we wallow in the opening bass sonorities, received as much in the gut as in the ears, and revel in huge, billowing climaxes, heightened by what could pass for a hundred strings."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
Parq:

Let's put it this way. That I know of, four people from the band are now semi-famous or at least prominent in their fields. I suspect that none of them would *want* to remember it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
David D:

We should do a show with everyone's old band recordings - or perhaps not?
  5:49pm
Dean:

This was the mainstay overture for Yes appearances.

I've been listening on my phone since my new plan gives me unlimited data. Yes, I've forced my company to get a new internet service provider even though our building is being sold in two months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm
David D:

Unlimited mobile data! That is a far-off dream in these parts...
  6:00pm

Now there's a theme for a future show: songs about cellular phone plans.

I upgraded my phone, as my 6 year old iPhone 5 finally died, and I'm still paying the same as I was before, including the payment for the new phone.

Loving it here in Gainesville. However, I've been spending so much time studying for work (it's been about 20 years since I've studied botanical and aquatic biochemistry and soil science), that I barely have unpacked or cleaned my flat.
