This is great... what's the story behind Wishful Thinking?
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:35pm cometothesunshine:

They released quite a handful of 45's in the UK, MCE

Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:38pm cometothesunshine:

TR & the Castaways a little under mixed on this one - but moody and cool sounding
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:40pm mce1965:

WT made it into the 70s with a Klaus Voormann penned track
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:40pm cometothesunshine:

Phil Gary talking 'bout been' a Rollin' Stone - but not sounding very tough
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:41pm cometothesunshine:

My advice: don't have harpsichord on your record if you want to sound like a big man
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:41pm mce1965:

Born to be mild
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:42pm mce1965:

Very Boettcherish backing vox on this one

Yes, Chris Difford's next album title, no doubt
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:43pm cometothesunshine:

Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:47pm cometothesunshine:

This one is a Recorded from the Next Room Over style production.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:48pm mce1965:

You know your distribution is in trouble when the Rainy Day label is "Nationally Distributed by Jay-Gee Record Co."
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:49pm cometothesunshine:

Most of today's 45s were purchased in a single day

Some days it's worth getting outta bed
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:50pm cometothesunshine:

Well, I got lucky. And I still had to play about 100 45's to come up withe these 20.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:52pm mce1965:

Sad that she disowns all this pre-heroin stuff now.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 6:52pm cometothesunshine:

Reparata & The Delrons time
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:04pm cometothesunshine:

Many thanks to MCE for your help this week (& last week)
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:05pm mce1965:

I gotta let the Sunshine through, always
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:07pm cometothesunshine:

Toom Toom is Su Su
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:09pm mce1965:

Try try again. This is the beautiful thing about the era. Reparata & the D's had not a single top 40 hit but kept on at it, thanks to the multiple labels allowing them to record throughout the '60s and into the '70s.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:09pm mce1965:

Brilliant stuff. Really hard to believe they didn't score at all in the US
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:10pm cometothesunshine:

It is surprising - they didn't slip the right people the $
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:11pm mce1965:

Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:12pm cometothesunshine:

I first heard them through Beat Club, possibly on an old Night Flight episode.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:12pm mce1965:

At first I think they were seen as sub-par Shangri-Las (and that first album doesn't do much to disprove that), but they went on to record much better material IMHO
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:13pm mce1965:

Same here re: Beat Club clip!
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:15pm cometothesunshine:

A great production
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:16pm cometothesunshine:

Some cool electric harpsichord
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:16pm cometothesunshine:

I also like how the same weird guitar sound is on so many of their records
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:17pm mce1965:

Yes... I love Panic too. Is that coming up?
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:18pm cometothesunshine:

Actually, no Panic today
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:18pm cometothesunshine:

but, hey, I'm playing Ringo
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:19pm mce1965:

Well, okay
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:19pm Michael Luciano:

You can't go wrong with Beatles tunes. This is a good version too.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:20pm cometothesunshine:

I agree
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:21pm cometothesunshine:

I wish these shows didn't take so long to put together, but I am always happy when I have enough time to make them right.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:23pm mce1965:

A lovely job, as always. I must conclude my Reparata listening in the car... thank you Andrew for all you put into these shows
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:23pm Michael Luciano:

Your appreciation for music comes through in every episode - you do a great job.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:24pm cometothesunshine:

Thank you both!
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:25pm Michael Luciano:

I wish I could do one of these for my favorite band - I wouldn't know where to start.
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:28pm Michael Luciano:

Plus, my recorded voice is really annoying.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:29pm cometothesunshine:

I do my best to slow down and be less annoying and sometimes I don't sound boring!
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:32pm cometothesunshine:

Reparata has a really nice singing voice - not too strident.
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:34pm Michael Luciano:

It's not boring because you are so knowledgeable and we have never heard most of this material before. I find myself researching the bands you play when there's a song that stands out.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:36pm cometothesunshine:

I appreciate that - thank you!
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:37pm Michael Luciano:

Listening to your show is like going to a concert and just being open to whatever comes. There's no expectation because it's all new.
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:38pm Michael Luciano:

and you weed out the clunkers.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:39pm cometothesunshine:

It is incredible that none of these songs charted
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:40pm Woof:

Agreed! These songs are great!
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:41pm Michael Luciano:

And even more incredible some of the ones that did! If you look at the top 100 from this time - some of the songs and artists I've never even heard of.
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:42pm Michael Luciano:

Is one of the things that takes so long cleaning up the sound? It seems some of these 45's would be in pretty bad shape - but I don't hear all of the usual crackling of vinyl.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:45pm cometothesunshine:

Actually, the technology to clean the 45s has improved to the point where that part only takes about an hour per show. It is selecting, sequencing and editing the show that takes another 10-20 hours.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:45pm cometothesunshine:

All the music is played in at real time too - so there is 2 hours on top of it.
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:47pm Michael Luciano:

I don't know how you do it all - you seem to be everywhere these days.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:47pm cometothesunshine:

But it sounds good when finished.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:49pm cometothesunshine:

This is their first 45
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:51pm Michael Luciano:

This could have been a big hit!
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:52pm cometothesunshine:

They had potential for sure - and must have worked very hard to make all of these 45s!
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:54pm cometothesunshine:

Well, that is almost it for today. Thanks for listening to music with me. Have a fine evening.
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:55pm dangie:

Hash Brown & His Orchestra... in a bit of irony we're having breakfast for dinner tonight.. Great shiow Andrew, thank you!!
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:55pm Woof:

Great show, Andrew! Thank you so much for the Sunshine!
  Mon. 9/18/17 7:56pm Michael Luciano:

You too! Nice to hang out with you this afternoon.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 7:57pm cometothesunshine:
