A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 28 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. [On hiatus.] (Visit homepage.)

Hello Kenzo, good whatever time it is where you are
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Stanley:

I'm not into time, man.
Avatar 5:02pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh gosh it's so hard to remember, there are so many times at once
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm gloomsday (Michelle):

and blast off :)
Avatar 5:05pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh, hello, you! And you, and you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm gloomsday (Michelle):

my heart skips a beat every time NMH makes an appearance on this show
Avatar 5:10pm Bliss:

Never realized, as a child, that The Jetsons and The Flintstones were by the same people.
Avatar 5:10pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Mmmm Michelle. I saw them not long ago.
Avatar 5:11pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Bliss: Don't forget Yellow Submarine
Avatar 5:11pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Stanley, are you out of time?
Avatar 5:11pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

fred, glad there are no great live shows in Paris right now
  5:11pm Sandra:

Hi Ken!
Sounds great!
Avatar 5:12pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I just rewatched Schizopolis. Really special!
Avatar 5:13pm steve:

hey Kenzo
Avatar 5:14pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hi, Sandra! You're gonna be all over this in a few minutes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm gloomsday (Michelle):

i desperately want to see NMH and/or jeff live again. such wonderful memories.
Avatar 5:15pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

steve, hi!
Avatar 5:18pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

gloomsday, I almost went and followed them to the next tour date. Almost.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm weinstein:

I'm soaking in time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm fred:

@Kenzo: I hope that reference to live shows isn't a passive/aggressive way to say you're playing in Paris right now and I didn't know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm gloomsday (Michelle):

hehe. so tempting! i am very fond of those noisy boys. :)
Avatar 5:20pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

fred: I'm playing live in your home in Paris right now
Avatar 5:21pm Bliss:

Help their futures?
Avatar 5:21pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

weinstein: You're soaking in it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm fred:

@Kenzo: I didn't know I had a home in Paris! I guess that's in the future, though that's more than a little disturbing to a lifelong suburban like me
Avatar 5:23pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yes, fred, you travelled back in time and are also there
Avatar 5:23pm Bliss:

Suburban = Below Urban?
Avatar 5:23pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

big ups to chainsaws
Avatar 5:24pm Bliss:

Were there guys on stage at the convention revving uo chainsaws while the girl talked?
Avatar 5:25pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

She gave them a time out because kids can really make a difference
Avatar 5:26pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@gloomsday, I see indeed much NMH mention on your various profiles!
Avatar 5:26pm Bliss:

NMH = ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm fred:

@Bliss: I've always lived South of Paris, so that's below on maps
Avatar 5:27pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

This is a kind of a Rorschach test for audio. Does it make you smile and laugh to hear chainsaws, screaming cats, music loops, and revved up dogs?
Avatar 5:27pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Bliss: Neutral Milk Hotel
Avatar 5:28pm Bliss:

Thanks.
Avatar 5:28pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Here comes Sandra

Roosevelt. It gradually gets less funny than the chainsaws
Avatar 5:40pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh but Gabe who was abducted by aliens. Letting us down slowly.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Rich in Washington:

Damn work meetings...
What'd I miss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Rich in Washington:

I just typed that while you were typing that.
Avatar 5:44pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Wow, I didn't even have to say it three times!
Avatar 5:44pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I think you missed the funniest part. But we're still kinda in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Rich in Washington:

Modernization...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Rich in Washington:

Schizopolis? Why don't I own that movie? I loved it.
Avatar 5:46pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I knew it
Avatar 5:48pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Probably Alex Jones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Rich in Washington:

I have no idea why I am reminded of this, or why I'm sharing it, but I recently saw The Ruling Class for the first time. Maybe because of this show? Not THIS show, but this show.
Avatar 5:49pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hmm, I don't know it. Any relation to Rules of the Game or Sweet Smell of Success?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Rich in Washington:

remember when Alex Jones had that cameo in A Scanner Darkly and we thought he was funny?
Avatar 5:49pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Ilana Wexler: www.npr.org...
Avatar 5:50pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

The explosions, and the presidents are back. My laughter starts turning nervous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Rich in Washington:

The Ruling Class is amazing! Peter O'Toole thinks he's Jesus, inherits an aristocratic title, amazing dialog.
Avatar 5:51pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I will queue it up
Avatar 5:51pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Here's the part where I start feeling silly for having laughed for the last 200 years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Gary:

Is it available on Netflix streaming?
Avatar 5:53pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I speak of different queues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm fred:

@Gary: 200 years might be a little too long for Netflix
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Rich in Washington:

No. I don't think so. I think I either found it on YouTube or on Amazon. It's a little too outre for Netflix.
Avatar 5:54pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Sir Ronald Reagan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Rich in Washington:

I cannot get over imagining Ronald as a robot built by RCA and General Electric. Everything about him seemed synthetic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm fred:

"Sir" sounds a lot like "Soeur" in french, which means "Sister"
Avatar 5:56pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Whatever might make that guy seem more compassionate, he needs it
Avatar 5:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

"Freedom of speech is of no use if a man has nothing to say."

Avatar 6:04pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Carmichael, come back for the archive. 20 mins to 60 mins is ridiculous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm fred:

Do you plan to make new live shows?
Avatar 6:05pm Carmichael:

That's 40 sheets of velvet. Will do ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm gloomsday:

Avatar 6:06pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@fred: Plans?
Avatar 6:07pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

(@fred: Yes. I'm busy^1024 just now)
Avatar 6:08pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hmm, Psi 5 Trading Company theme song, new version
Avatar 6:09pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

And another Commodore 64 game
Avatar 6:10pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Sounds like Ultima II or III maybe
Avatar 6:11pm Carmichael:

Yup, that's the ol' 8 bit processor spitting out the tunes.
Avatar 6:12pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@fred: Truth is, it doesn't take much longer to do a new live show than to play these old gems, because I don't do advance planning for the shows. But psychologically, every time I do a new show, my whole consciousness kind of regenerates and clears out. It's a little dangerous when I'm deeply focused on a particular project.
Avatar 6:12pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm fred:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm fred:

@Kenzo: Best to save new shows for when you're stuck then
Avatar 6:16pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I remember mapping Ultima IV. But I have stronger memories of mapping Adventure a.k.a. Collosal Cave
Avatar 6:17pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@fred: There is also probably a fear of making new shows, because sometimes they're just too good, and I'm left a little overwhelmed when I do a lot of good shows in a short time span. Maybe therapy will help me answer this one more.
Avatar 6:17pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Mme. Ronald Reagan
Avatar 6:18pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Station pledges can be made from the dog cow thingy at the top of the page, just like the dogs and cows we heard last hour.

I mapped Ultima IV too, very elaborately, using crayons left from years before

Avatar 6:37pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@fred: Ultima IV was amazing. I tried to play it again, around the time of today's show, and couldn't believe how tedious the battle sequences were. I wanted to skip them! So I had to stop.
