The excitement of punk in 1974 was that you could do it yourself! Didnt need a record deal. Didn’t need to be “pretty”. Didn’t need to fill a stadium. (God bless Hilly for providing a venue). Didn’t even need to know how to play. Just had to gird your loins and go. The energy and power of the people who made something out of nothing.

i was 24 too, trying to find a graphic design job in nyc. one thing i applied for was artist to do dioramas and touch up and signage at natural history museum which could have been fun but didn't pay much. job i finally got paid $14,000 a year to start. if i had 20 or 30 bucks left at the end of the month i was happy.
