Good morning, Bob and all. What a glorious fall morning in the northeast.

  9:29am RHenderson:

Good morning! Though it's still dark in SoCal... I can see that Roland Kirk track fitting easily into an old Sesame St. episode ...

What's up, Doc?

Roadmaster
  9:43am EB:

Bob, you didn't flunk the "Jimmy Mack" test. It was recorded in 1964 and
shelved until Feb 1967 because it was considered unsuitable for release
during the uncontested years of the Viet Nam war.
  9:48am 1whoknewcthulhu:

Swear to God, when I heard the opening licks of Big Star's "Feel," I thought I we were going to hear a backing track for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "You're All I Need to Get By.'
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:48am doctorjazz:

OK, been listening to the Dizzy Gillespie Birthday Broadcast all morning at work today, time for some FMU single goodness!
  9:49am RHenderson:

I can still recall seeing the Chris Bell 45 (on Chris Stamey's CAR label) on display in the store in '78, so excited that there was still more Big Star-type music. And then you play "Feel"...how perfect.

Great Q!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:57am WilliamfromDumont:

I'm with Doc J. My two fave DJs on at the same time. BB and Phil S. What to do?
  9:58am geep:

I saw the Q last night in Louisville (KY). What can I say. WHAT CAN I NOT SAY !
  9:59am RHenderson:

I love this track, the chicha rendition of " I Dream Of Jeannie"'s theme...
  10:00am Doc Rock:

Good Morning Bob & Everyone. I bought Big Star #1 Hit Record for $1.99 at the old Free Being record store on 2nd ave. just off St. Marks Pl. in 1973. I didn’t know another person who had it. Later that year or early 1974 I went to Max’s & saw the 3 man Big Star. They were so loud that my friend asked me “where are the horns”. I don’t think there were more than 35 people there that night. Of course this was BRFORE Big Star became a big deal. As someone who worked in record stores then I can tell you that we couldn’t give away the 1st 2 Big Star albums.
  10:04am GListener MW:

Ha! -- thanks for the story, Doc.
Gawd I miss St Marks Place record shop heavy era
  10:06am Jeff in Whately:

Hey Bob.
  10:06am GListener MW:

Really digging the Melachrino strings, Bob
  10:11am Doc Rock:

Hey JD - good morning. Hopefully you’re doing well. Let’s try to talk soon.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:13am doctorjazz:

Saw Q when they were at Monty Hall, they were great!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:14am doctorjazz:

(St Marks Record shopping was one of my regular trips...was it "Sounds", up that stair case?....)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:14am doctorjazz:

DIZ!!!!!!!
  10:18am Doc Rock:

GListener MW - I especially miss Rob Friedman’s Gramaphone store. In the old days 45s in the back albums everywhere else. Great place.
  10:22am RHenderson:

These strings slay me. And pairing Satchmo with Bjork...now there's a concept...
  10:22am J.D.:

Right back at ya, Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Hughie Considine:

Yes, it was Sounds, Doctor! I miss it too, even the petulant clerks.
Avatar 10:23am Stay Frosty:

Satchmo and Ella. What else do I need... Maybe Satchmo and Sarah. Great set Mr. Brainen. Thank you.
  10:28am J.D.:

Ha! The New Cream! Sometimes you just gotta have some Blind Faith!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Dano59:

excellent selection BB! I especially love the promotional sides you are playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Dano59:

Ichiban seems to slip quite a few of those in from time to time ... old B-movie trailers on 45s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Dano59:

so are all the non B's all from the FMU library? My station would rather have a digital library than store 45s.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:36am doctorjazz:

Spend a lot of time on the Give The Drummer Stream, haven't checked out Ichiban, have to see what's up there (only so much listening time in a day...)
Ella and Louis saved my marriage early on-I'm a jazz fiend, my wife, musical theater/pop singers, the only thing we could agree on in the car was Ella and Louis (since then we've both broadened our tastes, I like show music, she's gotten more funky!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Dano59:

the B-movie sleaze seems to fit in with a lot of rockabilly, garage, early honky-tonky they play Dr. J
  10:38am Doc Rock:

The New Cream?!!! Wacky bogus ad. The first night of the “New Cream” tour was supposed to be at Newport, but it was cancelled due to the rioting. Next stop NYC @ MSG. With opening acts Free & Delaney & Bonnie & friends. Which had its own mini riot due to a fly away Ginger Baker drumstick. Ah, 1969.
  10:48am Dennis Diken:

great to hear Spanky & Our Gang, love their albums, methinks they are underrated. nice show Bob!
  10:52am SeanG:

morning bob and all
  10:52am J.D.:

Hey Bob, I got a whole bunch of Rascals "See/Carry Me Back" 45s. I got them from a friend who worked at Atlantic when they were issued. I want to give you one for next time. Just let me know how to get it to you.
  10:55am Doc Rock:

I agree with DD- Spanky and Our Gang are underrated. Thanks for another great show Bob.
