Is... is it going to be novelties (and such) in the next three hours, he asked in a small respectful voice?
  3:17am
markr:

We're letting Count Chocula program this first set. Then we're gonna mix things up a little bit.

grizzly bear song really good!!!!
  3:36am
markr:

I know, I love Grizzly Bear. They have a new record out, but if we have it here at the station, I can't seem to find it, dammit. But any excuse to play "Shields" will do.

Anyone listening to this hendrix will understand why he was different than everyone.

Every year I smile when I listen to this song. And again, what a good album New York is.
  4:45am
markr:

Great album, but it's a sad song. It's a tribute to all his friends who aren't there because of the A.I.D.S. epidemic, right?
  4:51am
muwfInMA:

o diamanda, remember seeing her in early 90s @ that club under the clock? restaurant near Cooper U. amazing show...
  4:52am
markr:

She blows my mind. I know she's not for everybody, but I think she's amazing. She holds nothing back. She must collapse into bed after a show and sleep for 12 hours.

As good as it gets!

I knew someone would call me out. Yes, it’s a sad song, and yet it’s a good-humored song, and it makes me smile, truly. Especially when it’s played as a Halloween song.

The live album Galas did recently struck me as over the line into parody. But that’s just me, I can see somebody seeing it very differently
  5:03am
markr:

Yeah, there were some humorous characters in Lou's song, you're right. I think that's what it makes it great--this long list of funny characters, then, "But it's not the same without you here." Sigh. I think you could say that about just about any Diamanda Galas album--is she for real, or is she putting us on, or maybe a little bit of both?

Vincent Nifigance:

The Count ain't doing too shabby.
  5:05am
markr:

I know--Ken's probably gonna take me off the schedule and give the Count his own show.
Avatar 5:14am

She’s definitely very very serious, if I judge her correctly from internet conversations. (Not mine.) She got mad for people who don’t understand her, which, you know, really?

This is the best thing I've heard all year! Miaow Miaow!!

(I like the stuff I was exposed to many years ago. Litanies of Satan, etc.)

I confess, I hadn't heard the Billy Jam 2015 Marathon Megamix before, it's great!

Edinburgh! Mons Meg!

muwfInMA:

she’s serious and steeped in.... death jUsT a wee bit much prob 4 anyone’s good — love in small well spaced doses amazing she is still going which has to indicate a discipline, care, beyond raw talent.... her very bluesy record was a great break a while way back — still without power in the soaked northeast of MA wit the coywolves howling as i type this:/
Avatar 5:38am
Scraps:

Oh, I really like this song. I think this is Abrams’ first album — first song on his first album
  5:39am
markr:

Yeah, she did a great version of "The Man in the Long Black Coat." Yes, exactly right, Scraps. Even though he was the leader of the AACM, he was one of the last to record. The woman with the haunting voice was Penelope Taylor, btw.
Avatar 5:42am
Scraps:

And I like the singer, Penelope Taylor. I don’t have anything else by her, I don’t think.
  5:43am
markr:

Me either. But I thought she deserved a shout-out, she was amazing on this record.

Michael Mantler! Awesome!
Avatar 5:50am

I’ll bet you could play a song from this album almost every week, with your birthday and death days thing. There must be forty (great) musicians here.
  5:52am
markr:

Yeah, I think I was playing it too much there for a while. But I think enough time has passed.
  5:58am
markr:

Happy Halloween, everyone! Thanks for listening, thanks for pledging, Bob Balaban will be on next week!
Avatar 5:58am

Oh, you guys haven't changed your clocks! We went back an hour yesterday, so I've missed an hour. Pah.
