Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

@Henry: I guess you're the one with glasses biking in the front row, not the one blow drying his beard (which is somewhat disappointing)

I love Jaap Blonk. I don't get why Phil Minton is held in such higher esteem in my regular circle
  3:17pm

Hello Weinstein... and happy halloween to all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
weinstein:

Well, mrwiggles, i guess you found mrblonk. Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
weinstein:

@Fred. Just a guess, but there is a bias against the "clowny" aspect of Dutch performance, which is undeniable, but often well integrated, as with Blonk.
Avatar 3:20pm
northguineahills:

I've never heard anyone prefer Phil over Jaap.

David were you at this JB performance? Can you shed any additional light on what's happening?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
weinstein:

This fellow is extremely animated, body follow voice and vice versa. He is all over the place, like a rubber doll.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
fred:

@David: there is probably some truth to that. I think Minton is often too predictable, though I saw great performances of him with Audrey Chen (I think she pushes/challenges him out of his comfort zone)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
fred:

@ngh: Instants Chavirés regulars (and staff) overwhelmingly prefer Minton. I'm an outlier there

I'll miss next week's show: Lea Bertucci is playing in Paris. I loved the show I saw last year, so I'm not going to miss that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
weinstein:

Cool. Say hello. Lea has played here several times at Outpost.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
steveo:

Spice or spookiness? ... Next Wednesday I'm excited to be seeing Colleen in Brooklyn. I'll still be here for Ridgewood, though, because time zones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
weinstein:

You mean time zones between Brooklyn and Queens? Or because we move clocks this week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
steveo:

Oh, um, I just mean because I'm not in France and you're not on at 8pm in nyc.
Avatar 4:14pm
northguineahills:

I know Lea, although I haven't seen her in almost two years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
steveo:

That'd be funny if Queens was a different time zone; the guy in the bodega on Wyckoff who claimed the border goes through the center of his store might become confused, however.

Wish I had been out there for this performance... Hoping to attend some of Ende Tymes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
weinstein:

Yes! End Tymes is here at Outpost Nov. 10-13 and we will record! But come!
Avatar 4:16pm
northguineahills:

Yes, the border does go through right at Wycoff for a few blocks.
  4:17pm
Friendly Ghost:

speaking of time zones, RIP Muhal Richard Abrams. When DW and I interviewed him at the Clocktower, if I remember correctly, he said:

"There is time and then there is no-time. Which are you asking about specifically?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
weinstein:

Ohhhh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm

I usually dislike performances involving words, but I like this one

(*and yeah, such a shame about Muhal) -> when I used to work for Patricia & William Parker to make the Vision Festival happen between 2009-2011 we gave Muhal a Lifetime Achievement award, and he played one of the most incredibly powerful / intimate yet grand, solo performances I've ever seen.
