Avatar 5:26pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Fripp feels alive to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm northguineahills:

Yes, Fripp is still alive, b/c WFMU would implode for a few days. Woofmoo is my reality to me.

It takes time to fall in love, but it's inevitable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, folks. I had an idea last week that I meant to post on Station Manager Ken's show this morning, but this may be a good a place as any to toss it out: WFMU ringtones. I thought it'd be cool to be able to download from 4 or 5 choices. When your phone rings, any 'FMU listeners in the vicinity could identify another listener.

Avatar 5:45pm Bliss:

@Kenzo
Was 2000 the first year you had your own website?
Avatar 5:46pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Bliss...1993
Avatar 5:47pm Bliss:

@Kenzo
Then this one starting in 2000?
Avatar 5:47pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

In 1993 I made a website which had a color scan of my hand. In early 1994 I created my radio show site and also a huge growing list of links to other sites.
Avatar 5:48pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

The KenzoDB thingy I made that WFMU uses I launched in 2000, yes.
Avatar 5:48pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

In 1995 I made an automated online version of a bi-weekly newspaper I managed, and also co-created a radio station website.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Webhamster Henry:

WFMU's site started as a gopher site on ECHO, and eventually the gopher became part of WFMU's web offerings. Before KenzoDb, I hand formatted a whole lot of playlists here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Rich in Washington:

I got lost in stupid work situations again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Webhamster Henry:

There are still primordial bits of the pre-Kenzo WFMU site sitting around in deep links!
Avatar 5:50pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Perfect timing, Rich...you're here right when you were here last night!
Avatar 5:50pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yes, Henry's marks are all over here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Rich in Washington:

just in time for my horrid beige phone interface.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Webhamster Henry:

The two letter archive codes for shows were things I made up so they'd sort nicely on my NeXT.
Avatar 5:53pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Rich, it was great! Felt like the Museum of Natural History's 70's-era gems and minerals exhibit that just closed 2 weeks ago
Avatar 5:54pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I still regret not having tried harder to talk Ken out of keeping 2-letter codes

Avatar 5:55pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

"It's not too late"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm northguineahills:

My first email was prodigy, back in 1989. I only emailed a friend of mine a few times, and the novelty wore off, as no one else had email. It wasn't until 1993 that I actually started using it again, and then I went to college, where the university gave us a free accountwas mostly used to communicate w/ my professors and classmates. Damn, I was boring. I didn't even make a website until '98 (again, for academic purposes). I found WFMU online in '98 and only my work could handle the tinny sound, so, when I worked late, I would listen to WFMU. Two years later, I would be able to listen terrestrially.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Rich in Washington:

I just need to fix that static problem. It's intermittent and somewhat infuriating. Otherwise, it has pretty good fidelity. The other minus, it being such an old phone, there's no speed dial or memory. I must manually redial, like in the old days.
Avatar 5:56pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I started emailing around 1981. BBS'ing around 1982. Internet emailing starting in 1985
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I like how the Unix has little two-character commands (rm ls mv, etc.). It's annoying to try to memorize and type out stuff like copyOldFileToNewPlace kind of stuff.
Avatar 5:57pm Bliss:

In 1984 I sat down at a computer in the University library. black screen, green letters with the book catalogue on it. "no big deal" I thought and didn;t go online until 2000.
Avatar 5:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Sure is easy to find the Drummer stream here! freeform.wfmu.org
Avatar 5:59pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I first launched Mosaic on a Sun workstation in 1993 and thought, whoa, this is a significant leap up from Gopher. I remember being flooded by how obvious it was it was going to change everything.
Avatar 5:59pm Bliss:

That sire is nice, in a way.
Avatar 6:00pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I still have my printed modem chat logs from the late 70's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Rich in Washington:

I don't think I ever got online, and then intermittently, until 1995 or so. Then limited internet via my job, but didn't own a computer capable of really getting online myself until 1998 or 1999 or so.
Avatar 6:00pm Bliss:

Avatar 6:02pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I had a dumb terminal discarded by someone I used to go online throughout the 80's. Discarded modems, too...110 baud giant thing, 300, 1200 Hayes, 2400, 9600, 19.2 USR...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Webhamster Henry:

I had WWW on the NeXT (the first browser), and it predated <FORM> and <TABLE> tags. When those showed up .. and the idea that you didn't need reciprocal links, which was a key part of Ted Nelson's concept of hypertext, the web started weaving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Webhamster Henry:

Before there were search engines, Panix used to have an internet search contest. You'd have to pull lists of files off of FTP servers, dig around UUnet, etc.
Avatar 6:04pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I remember when table appeared too
Avatar 6:06pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Missed my Shmoocon ticket round by 30 seconds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Webhamster Henry:

TABLE and FRAME were miracles! my Internet Synthesizer (which is still running, but not on WFMU) has a special "netscape torture page" which was a table that has so many fields on it, it would really gum up Netscape.
Avatar 6:09pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

My webpage used to force Netscape to generate an email msg back to me. So I knew who was looking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks Kenzo! The old WFMU front page is still around at freeform.wfmu.org incase you want to see what's playing on the drummer stream without needing to click to it! Complete with the soundbite of the day!

Avatar 6:33pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Roxy Music time-stretched, phone phreaking, David Lynch still playing, was a bit of OCDJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Doug Schulkind:

Kenzo db was so remarkable in the way it was flexible enough to incorporate so many different styles within its basic template.
Avatar 6:36pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I made a trip to Doug's home to show him how to use those features I made him
Avatar 6:36pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

'cause he's an important DJ for the world
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Doug Schulkind:

And then, following the transitive property: if Kenzo = Kenzo db, and Kenzo db = remarkable, then...

Kenzo = remarkable
