Hey, David, only 3 hours this week?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:03pm

A paler shader of white?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Webhamster Henry:

I immediately thought of White Room and "White Bird" << It's a Beautiful Day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
David D:

Greetings everyone! Your traditional three-hour tour tonight...

doctorjazz:

go, Eric (when he was a Guitar God!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
David D:

Yes, indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Parq:

I was in Ireland as a teen in '73, and came back with a local music weekly with a big article about Tír na nÓg. Was years later before I actually heard them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
David D:

How long were you there - sounds like a great experience.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Sem:

Good evening, David.
Goof God, Hunter Thompson's favourite song.
Hello, Subway-ers, and the Continental curious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
David D:

Hey Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
Parq:

David, on that trip, I was with my high school marching band. We were there for a week, and were in the St Patrick's Day parade in Cork (where we were named best band) and an international competition in Limerick (which we lost to one JFK High School -- one of the many JFK High Schools in the U.S. at the time).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Parq:

I've been back twice with Mrs. Parq, once for our honeymoon and once to mark our 20th anniversary and our kid's 15th birthday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
David D:

Congratulations, that sounds like no mean feat. What do/did you play?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
Parq:

I was a tenor sax man at the time. My efforts toward being a musician are long over, I'm afraid. Just haven't got the physical ability.

I found an Ilhan Mimarogolu LP at the Jacksonville Public Library sale for 50 cents at the turn of the century. I like he gave of his chair at Columbia once they instituted a no-smoking policy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
David D:

I suppose marching adds to the physical challenge as well. Never did play in a marching band myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
David D:

50 cents, wow! Those library sell-offs are great opportunities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
David D:

And nothing like the old days of students smoking in (the best) classes.
Avatar 🚂 4:55pm
northguineahills:

@David: it was a few months before I moved to NYC, and I decided to get a drink in downtown Jax next to my office, when I saw that there was a library sale. I knew they had good stuff as my friends frequented it. I spent over $50 and had a stack of recs that came up to my eyes that I struggled to get 6 blocks to where my car was parked. It was a good day!

Gee, my marching band never went anywhere more exotic then Gatlingburg, TN or DC for our competitions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
Parq:

NGH, the year after our Ireland adventure, we went to DC as well, for the Cherry Blossom parade. Rained like hell. Several brand new uniforms were ruined.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
David D:

Hey, Tennessee sounds exotic to me.

Diggin' this as I finish off some sausages made by some German farmer friends down the road. I grow the garlic that goes into them, getting repaid w/ some pretty excellent fare.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm

Sounds like a great community - bon appetit!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:38pm

I'm listening to Continental Subway.
Hey Sem Chumbo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
David D:

Great to have you aboard, Stanley! Are you back from France?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
Sem:

Hello, Stanley.
Yes, DD, my very question.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
Stanley:

Yes, David, back and back at work. Miss the weather, it was 0c at night 20c by day, full sunshine. The mountains looked incredible and it was like you drank the air.
(Planning a trip to Krakow next)
Hehe....

Bublitschki?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
Sem:

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Sem:

Bublitschki, translated Brezel or Bagel, is the title of a Ukrainian-Russian song from the 1920s. The title refers specifically to Bubliki, a common in Eastern Europe counterpart to pretzels or bagels.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
doctorjazz:

Tenk you Bery Much, Sem!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
doctorjazz:

(so the title translates to-Bagels and Bagels...?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
David D:

Sorry, was away for a minute - yes, it is a near-synonym, although I can't say I have any first-hand experience with bublitchki myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
David D:

We do have bagel shops in Leipzig, though, and not bad ones either.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
Sem:

Erwähnen Sie es nicht, Dr. J.
Das ist mein Anschlag, lass mich einfach das Fett von meinem Kinn wischen und dir gute Nacht sagen, David und alles.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
Sem:

G**gle translate is not it is cracked up to be. Ciao.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
doctorjazz:

@Sem, Bing translate is amusing; "Don't mention it, Dr. J. This is my stop, just let me wipe the fat off my chin and tell you goodnight, David and everything".
On that note, think I'll start the commute home, maybe catch some in the car.
Thanks, David!
Avatar 6:04pm
Scraps deSelby:

hey h’lo bubliki
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
David D:

Gute Nacht, Sem - and greetings Scraps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
David D:

@Doc: Yes, there was or possibly still is an internet site that sends a text through several languages in automatic translation and back again. Lots of fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
David D:

Can't find it right now but it is good for hours of fun.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
Webhamster Henry:

That was the premise of a really early Seven Second Delay, around 1992 (using the translation service provided by the phone company). They were translating "seeking" ads in the Village Voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
David D:

They were well ahead of their time.
  6:44pm
Doctorjazz:

Love this KAlimba.
  6:52pm
Doctorjazz:

Wouldn't have guessed Frisell. ... .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
David D:

Yes, enjoyed that one too!
Avatar 🚂 6:53pm
northguineahills:

Thanks David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Parq:

Has anyone yet said "This was mighty white of you, David"? Probably not, and rightly not. Never mind. Thanks for another great one, D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm
David D:

I'll have to think about that one, Parq. In any case, thanks everyone for listening and commenting - have a great week!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 7:01pm
Webhamster Henry:

Thanks David!
