Tsibele: New Directions in Klezmer / Yiddish / East European Roots Music

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player! | Add or read comments

It's Hanukkah with the Onions! Onions being the English translation of "Tsibele", a great new group on New York's Klezmer / Yiddish / East European roots scene.

Here's how the band describes itself on http://www.tsibelemusic.com:

Tsibele is a new-traditional klezmer band based in Brooklyn, New York. Our repertoire comes from Moldovan/Bessarabian music and the music of Jewish migrants from Europe to America, including the music of the Belf era. Tsibele's music explores the limits of the klezmer idiom through improvisation and songs from the edges of klezmer.

Tsibele has a fab debut album called It's Dark Outside - Indroysn iz Finster - check it out at https://tsibele.bandcamp.com/.

Right after tonight's radio show (Saturday December 16th), Tsibele heads over to Crown Heights - 1467 Bedford Ave to be precise - to play at the Brooklyn Jews Hanukkah Party.

And they're part of the Yiddish New York Festival's emerging artists showcase - Tsukunft/Future – The New Klezmorim - at the Town and Village Synagogue, 334 E 14th St in the East Village, Monday night December 25th (a/k/a Christmas) - along with Goyfriend and Overnight Kugel.

Give Tsibele a "like" and follow 'em on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tsibele/.

Massive thanks to our illustrious engineer, Glenn Luttman.
