a very somber show so far!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:13pm cometothesunshine:

The first half of today's playlist is adapted from an older show from the second year of the series. But, when I went to rebroadcast I found the audio needed a lot of help and I remade it for today with better discs and a new second half.
  Mon. 1/1/18 6:14pm Babinga:

sounds great here

Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:16pm cometothesunshine:

some of the discs from eleven years ago were in poor fidelity - I felt better about redoing it.
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:18pm mce1965:

New year... new fidelity. It's a good thing
Avatar 🎃 Mon. 1/1/18 6:19pm KarenS:

It's 2 degrees in Boston! I'm ready for some Sunshine!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:20pm cometothesunshine:

Year of the Dog, and "I Love My Dog" is a fitting theme song.
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:29pm cometothesunshine:

This is a song I have always loved in the Sal Valentino version.

Minneapolis represent! ;-)

just too my dogs out while it's a balmy 5 above zero
  Mon. 1/1/18 6:35pm izzy:

Very unlike their usual output! At least what I've heard, anyway!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:37pm cometothesunshine:

Yes, Izzy, some unusual selections in today's show.
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:41pm cometothesunshine:

Jim & Dale - a weird record - prefer their LP from later.
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:43pm cometothesunshine:

There must be a Jimmy Webb show somewhere in my future?
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:48pm cometothesunshine:

everyone still awake? Did we get too mellow?

we did!

Still here! Looking forward to Cat!

How's the Nez project coming?
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:53pm cometothesunshine:

Cat is coming! Looking forward to the Nez shows at the end of the month, yes.
  Mon. 1/1/18 6:54pm Babinga:

lol ..mellow yes...and Linda is very untouchable
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:56pm cometothesunshine:

surprisingly untouchable!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:56pm cometothesunshine:

I am trying to remember what frame of mind I was when I picked these songs in 2007.
  Mon. 1/1/18 6:58pm Babinga:

Sleepy? just a guess....lol
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 6:59pm cometothesunshine:

Here comes CAT!
  Mon. 1/1/18 6:59pm izzy:

Got tix for the Troub. Still trying to make it happen!

Nice Izzy!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:01pm cometothesunshine:

A feisty Cat!
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:01pm Babinga:

Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:02pm cometothesunshine:

I will never forget the first time I heard this song. Bill Inglot played it for me and it should be part of a compilation of songs by British people complaining about work. Oh, Bill!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:02pm cometothesunshine:

he said
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:04pm izzy:

Did you do a Cat show years ago? Might have been where I first heard these. Didn't know he had a "pre-A & M" phase at that point.
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:07pm Babinga:

I have a nice white label promo of this lp
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:08pm cometothesunshine:

This is a redone version of that early show, Izzy.
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:08pm izzy:

Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:10pm cometothesunshine:

I added a bunch of things I didn't have eleven years ago to this part
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:12pm cometothesunshine:

Hey Grandma!
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:20pm izzy:

Is there more that what's on those first two albums?
Avatar 🎃 Mon. 1/1/18 7:22pm KarenS:

I used to trade 45's as a teenager and somehow ended up with a demo of Kitty.
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:22pm cometothesunshine:

yes - several singles and two unissued songs, which I play in this show!
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:22pm izzy:

Funny--I was looking up those two albums and allmusic.com terms this as "dated juvenilia". Their loss......
Avatar 🎃 Mon. 1/1/18 7:23pm KarenS:

I mean promo not demo!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:23pm cometothesunshine:

Haha! Cat has actually returned to performing this song, Blackness Of The Night, in his live shows.
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:24pm izzy:

Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:24pm cometothesunshine:

Karen, in the UK, they call promos, demos!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:25pm cometothesunshine:

I am so impressed by these live versions - the UK radio orchestras did a great job with the complex arrangements.
Avatar 🎃 Mon. 1/1/18 7:25pm KarenS:

Ah! I need to see if I still have it!
Avatar Mon. 1/1/18 7:26pm cometothesunshine:

I specifically picked some of these radio sessions because Cat's vocals are double-tracked in places
Avatar 🎃 Mon. 1/1/18 7:26pm KarenS:

I think a guy named Cat singing Kitty just intrigued me haha.
  Mon. 1/1/18 7:51pm djandrew:

  Sat. 1/6/18 5:10pm Madi Horstman:

Your shows are generally amazing, this one I have listened to three times. Cat Stevens is quite a revelation. He was really great! Thank you so much for all you do.
  Mon. 1/15/18 11:12am Jeff:

Great set - wonder if there's a demo for Cat's "People People". Acetate maybe? My fave he never put out himself. The fact that song languishes in obscurity is a crime!
Avatar 🎃 Tue. 11/27/18 7:27am Brian in UK:

Andrew, catching up on archives. I bought Matthew & Son album on release with my first paper round money. Good songs are timeless. Mike Hurst was in the Springfields with Dusty and brother Tom but I guess you know that already.
Smart move on Kim Fowley's part to get co-writing credits on Portobello Road.
