Hello Matt and fellow listeners. I think another dj say last week that this is the first WFMU show specifically dedicated to blues. Is that true? Seems almost unbelievable but I can't think of another.

Matt Fiveash:

Hi everyone. Andrew, as far as I know that's true!

Well congratulations then :) Of course the genre is well represented here but I think a show devoted to the genre is a very welcome addition. Havent missed a show yet ;)

Ken From Hyde Park:

The Friday night blues DJ on WVKR up here does a fine MLK tribute each year. He played a Dick Cavett interview of Dr. King the other night.

Can't top this but a version I've always enjoyed of green onions is by Milt Buckner where he grunts throughout the song and celbrates the oniions making his belly "stick right out"

Andy the painter:

well said, matt; re: MLK. his later speeches and writings are revelations, if just in providing a more complete picture.

Attention WFMU shoppers!

I'm back with today's public service message. On this playlist you'll now see a link to the 128 AAC stream we've had up quietly for a number of months, but which is now advertised prominently on KDB-generated playlist pages thanks to our friend Kenzo.

If your streamy player (hint: VLC is a good one if you don't already have a favorite) supports AAC, I recommend using this 128k AAC stream instead of the 128k MP3 one. Same bandwidth use, but I think the AAC stream is somewhere between a little and a lot better sounding depending on the music.

MP3 particularly sucks when hit with record surface noise, and you may have noticed that WFMU DJs sometimes play vinyl.

Enjoy!

was so lucky to see Gil before he passed. It was a free show and I didnt realise it was torrential rain because i was under the overhang. He was late one hour for border hassles (had a bit of a history with the law), But his band kept us all enthralled til he got there. What a showman, tellse stories like hes talking right to you. Would have been easy for him to not bother showing up. When it was over and I turned around, there were only maybe 3 dozen people there.

The first I heard the Blues was when I heard Leadbelly

Phenomenal cut.........lover hearing Leadbelly (or in the band) solo
