![]() Lovely Sunday morning music |
![]() |
![]() Productive already, @listener james! Gonna get your Super Bowl feed bag on? |
![]() |
![]() Hello, and glad you are enjoying, @VT Knit Girl! |
Sun. 2/4/18 9:37am
Dean:
Have been wondering why more bands don't adopt slogans to market their wares. E.g., Eno: "One neo-eon." Slayer: "Really, they are that funny." The Carpenters: "Locations close to you." The Police: "Yeah, well, fuck U2." Steely Dan: "Peg." Etc.
Sun. 2/4/18 9:37am
Dean:
Gang of Four: "Nobody doesn't like that one bass player."
![]() |
![]() Welcome, @Dean. I think most musos have ceded that territory to the ad people already. |
Sun. 2/4/18 9:46am
Dean:
This Norton track came out in 2003, I'm pretty sure. https://www.discogs.com/Kevin-Norton-Jo%C3%ABlle-L%C3%A9andre-Tomas-Ulrich-Ocean-Of-Earth/release/2781089
![]() |
![]() Lovely set! |
![]() |
![]() Oh yeah, look at that, @Dean. Thanks. I guess he's selectively releasing tracks via Bandcamp now...? |
![]() |
![]() Made it! Hi Jeff (pant), listeners (cough, splutter) |
![]() |
![]() @Stanley! Never run to catch up to a radio show. There will always be another. |
![]() |
![]() (But, needless to say, glad you made it.) |
![]() |
![]() I'm a bit out of shape, Jeff. |
![]() |
![]() I have heard that song everyday for the last 3 days on FMU. |
![]() |
![]() I did attend a Super Bowl watching party, thirty years ago. It was 2 hours of commercials, one hour of pointless half-time show, and one hour of play. Maybe it's even worse by now |
![]() |
![]() Which one, @VT Knit Girl? |
![]() |
![]() As a Jets fan, I'm rooting for anyone-but-the-Patriots! Go Philly! |
![]() |
![]() I know someone who is planning to DVR the broadcast, fast forward through the game itself, and watch the commercials. |

Doug Schulkind:
On Facebook, Allen Lowe recently remarked that Lisa Parrott is the best baritone sax player on the planet. I am not familiar with her. are you, Mr. Golick?
Sun. 2/4/18 10:04am
Doug Schulkind:
Oh, and good morning! | |
![]() |
![]() 'mornin', @Doug! Never hoid the name before! |
![]() |
![]() Catching a local concert in the afternoon near my Jersey house The Mark O'Connor Band, should be fun |
![]() |
![]() i think it was in the archive of Troubles show from last Thursday. Can;t remember the other. Not the same version |
![]() |
![]() That party was when I spent two weeks as a high school exchange student... in Foxborough. You can guess which team I'm rooting for |
![]() |
![]() Funnily enough, I enjoy following the NFL on the BBC. We get highlights during the season and the Super Bowl live. I will be staying up to watch it tonight but is 6:30 p.m. ET the same time zone as WFMU? If so it starts at 11.30pm here. I have a pal 400 miles away who will be watching (he's the only other person I know that follows it) and we'll be in contact through the night and be co-ordinating snacks, beers etc. |
![]() |
![]() Morning all...I'm a NE fan, so that's out of the way. I'd match that baritone challenge with Hamiet Bluiett. |

![]() Hey, @JtotheK, @sberger, @hyde, & @Dave in Vermont! |
![]() |
![]() Haven't heard of Lisa Parrott eithei but shs seems to be playing in good company,, Matt Wilson, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra,, from a quick Google search. Pretty good credentials... |

Claw Hammer--of first Devo album redo fame--cover this Beefheart on their live album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gdPkjNIJ3g

@Dean i love Clawhammer. their first record is killer |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:36am
Dean:
I'm with you, @hyde. Saw them a handful of times, twice at Al's Bar. Really solid live band.
Sun. 2/4/18 10:37am
Dean:
What? No Pink Floyd? | |
![]() |
![]() Another quick Google search , not knowing much about Claw Hammer. Looks like there is a California band,, Claw Hammer, and a band from Glasgow named Clawhammer. |
![]() |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:42am
glenn:
super bowl? what's that? |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:43am
Dean:
The CA band, @doc, short-lived in the '90s, might have reunited once or twice. Jon Wahl, lead singer, had a number of gigs over the years. Guitarist Chris Bagarozzi was in Down by Law.
![]() |
![]() It's like Century Cup, but for half-wits, @glenn. Hiya. |
![]() |
![]() Bandcamp is overwhelming, hard (for me) to explore .. |
![]() |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:44am
glenn:
oh, and somewhat analagous to dean's earlier comment -why do book stores play music in store? why aren't they playing audiobooks? |
![]() |
![]() Ooop meant Grey Cup, thus proving my half-wittedness. |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:46am
Dean:
@glenn, In 1997 I flew from LA to Oakland to hear Anthony Braxton at Yoshi's, a few nights of his Ghost Trance group (speaking of Kevin Norton...). Visited Berkeley Public Library--the old building, long since renovated--and headed to the music room upstairs. They were playing music: Anthony Braxton!
![]() |
![]() Man, this is great! |
![]() |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:48am
glenn:
oh, i'm not opposed to music in book stores. it just seems to me that they should be promoting the product they sell. |
![]() |
![]() Finally, the drummer stream has an answer for Ken's Khlam |
![]() |
![]() Though bookstores mostly sell blank books and games now, so. |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:52am
Dean:
Oh, I don't know. You can find lots of useful titles in bookstores these days. For instance, if you're thinking of collecting mannequins, you could do worse than Dummies for Dummies.
![]() |
![]() Sadly, that track cannot be clicky-starred (I think the track name needs an approved US letter to be eligible) |
![]() |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:54am
glenn:
huh. i wonder if impeachment for dummies is on the shelves yet. |
Sun. 2/4/18 10:56am
Dean:
http://lawcat.berkeley.edu/record=b913795
![]() |
![]() @fred: well that's an interesting little fact. I wonder if it can be remedied. |
![]() |
![]() @Jeff: long-delayed answer, as I dived right into work, but yes, eventually cruising over to Dad's, for early dinner (meat loaf) before the main event! |
![]() |
![]() @Jeff: I'm sure it's only a matter of bringing it to Kenzo's attention. I do care about this, but I've been forgetting to do it on his playlist for a long time, so maybe don't rely on me |

northguineahills:
Morning friends. My wife yesterday just told me she's flying down from Brooklyn to visit on Friday (haven't seen her in person in 18 months). I'm freaking out as I have yet to construct my record shelves or book shelves, and she's a neat freak. I'm going to be busy this week! |

![]() |
![]() In case you were wondering what Peter Brotzmann would sound like in a bar band. |
![]() |
![]() Love this Murray album |
Sun. 2/4/18 11:21am
Dean:
Murray attended Berkeley High School. Yesterday, at a fundraiser bake sale I heard a BHS student, female, on alto channeling Coltrane. Impressive.
![]() |
![]() It would be hard to imagine an album more in line with your interests, @doc. |
![]() |
![]() True dat! |
![]() |
![]() This set is on fire! |
![]() |
![]() Burn, baby. |
![]() |
![]() I thought you would have played The Fall's 50 year old man last week, but I guess MES passing would have made it awkward |
![]() |
![]() Have this Rivers on vinyl, cool having bass and tuba down below. |
