Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Wow, wood you look at that? Nice radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:13pm pantz:

Irene! You're on of the reasons why I donate and I can't wait to get your Swag Gift.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:14pm TDK60:

How-do Irene, Bryce. Play some Moondog?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:16pm Summer and Michael:

Go, Irene, go! We love you and have renewed (and upped) our SFL, pledging to your show as always! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:20pm Irene Trudel:

Hi everybody! That radio I took a snap of at a community radio station in Sonoma, CA that I visited last week. Thanks for all the pledge love tonight. Keep 'em coming at 800-989-9368 or wfmu.org.
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:20pm tory:

I love David lynch and twin peaks was revolutionary, but I really want to know others opinions on the musical performances in the new show! So watered down and icky. What do you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:21pm TDK60:

Haven't heard this latest Randy N. album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:22pm herb.nyc:

Dark Matter? Related to math(and philosophy?)'s Continuum Hypothesis? I'm reading about the latter in a for-the-masses book. It makes my brain hurt. Anyway, let's all promptly pledge to wfmu now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:22pm pantz:

The Putin song is the best. Randy at his best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:24pm TDK60:

Irene do you know the year of the Grunow? 1930s? Fine design back then...art deco?
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:25pm Peter K.:

The most beautiful girl (and the best D.J.) in all of the world, and SHE CHOSE ME!! And I am SO glad she did. Now come on, everybody, it's YOUR turn to choose HER -- and PLEDGE! PLEDGE!! PLEDGE!!!
Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:33pm Stefen C.:

That last bit of banter was exactly what I needed to hear ... I work in a warehouse and I get the “ what are we listening to ?!” At least 3x a week .. I love WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:35pm TDK60:

Just tell 'em, WFMU is where they play ALL the hits!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:35pm pantz:

I had to choose between an espresso maker and pledging to WFMU, this month and I'm happy with my choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:35pm Irene Trudel:

TDK 60, I actually don't know the year of that radio. It was in the lobby of KSVY, Sonoma, CA, a community radio station I visited and was interviewed on last Thursday morning. (My husband Peter was on as well.)
Tue. 3/6/18 9:36pm Adam West Coaster:

...all the future (past) hits!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:37pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Stefen! WFMU is always a little hard to explain. pantz, was that choice WFMU??? (presumably so.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:39pm TDK60:

Tell 'em, WFMU is where I discovered Adrian Crowley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:40pm pantz:

It was @Irene! I'm fine with Folgers Crystals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I honestly don't know how a person can listen to a typical classic oldies station for more than an hour. The same handful of songs from the same albums from the same bands day in & day out. It's more fun here with material I've never heard before and marbles in blenders and whatnot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:43pm TDK60:

And Ken, sometimes *even* a "classic" here! like today Clay played "Every Little Thing" by the Fab 4, a wonderful track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:46pm pantz:

Every Tuesday at 11 am I hear there is a classic played on WFMU, without fail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:47pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yeah, a few like that here and there break things up a little.
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:50pm herb.nyc:

re record labels cutting costs, here's what Grizzly Bear says: "...But now, when you cut out record sales and we haven’t had a car commercial in ages, we literally lose money. So yeah the evolution of the music industry is in my opinion destroying bands that play music that are mid tier or lower. Nobody cherishes or puts any value into the craft that goes into songwriting, or studying music! Yes pop stars write hits. Yay! They also get the branding deals, and corp gigs…"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:51pm TDK60:

It's form free radio. ALL the hits. Everyone is climbing the charts here.
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:53pm Marc15:

Before cell phones we had to look for payphones
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:53pm cklequ:

Hay, now..... not all of us have cell phones.
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:54pm melinda:

Enjoying the mellow tunes and chatting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:54pm TDK60:

Ballooning in with the WFMU Steampunker postal workers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:55pm Scraps:

When I listen to my dad's satellite oldies station in the car, it's a little different: lots of deep cuts. I can stand it. On the other hand, they constantly advertise the godawful Rock n Rock Hall of Fame. Still, it's a lot better than terrestrial radio.
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:55pm Marc15:

Before cell phones we had actually remember people’s telephone numbers, something Millennials cannot do
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:55pm Marc15:

To remember*
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:56pm Scraps:

um, my millennial brother does remember his phone number. only one person, but.
  Tue. 3/6/18 9:58pm herb.nyc:

Payphones? In this 60s movie, Benjamin asks his landlord for a dime so he can use a payphone. Landlord is mad at him and wants him to move out. Ben says "here's a $20 bill, I need a dime. This is the best deal you'll make in yr life.". -know the movie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:58pm pantz:

I remember my psych teacher in high school saying that 7 digits is the limit on tertiary memory, that;s why phone #'s were 7 digits. Probably bullshit,in hindsight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, melinda. How's the Amtrak ride? You must be close by now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 9:59pm TDK60:

In the Olde days before the Interwebs, if one lived away from WFMU broadcasts one begged friends in NJ/NYC area to make cassettes of FMU shows (and/or mixes) and send via post. True story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:01pm pantz:

@herb is it The Graduate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:02pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, half the time I only know the phone number if I look it up in my contacts. Sad to say, I used to remember phone numbers easily, as I was a telephone operator right out of high school. Wasn't ready to start college. They taught me that people could remember 7 numbers without trouble, which is one of the reasons US phone numbers used to be that long, minus the area code. But I do remember my childhood telephone number-- FL33112.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:06pm TDK60:

Molina is great--techy & lo-fi combined. She's truly a chart topper here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

We were on a party line when I was little; I think five families. In those days, you could call anyone in town (about 2000 houses, maybe) by just dialing five digits.
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:08pm Marc15:

Pn ring dindy
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:08pm Marc15:

Like Ernestine
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

We would occasionally dial the operator and ask the correct time of day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:10pm TDK60:

I once called an operator in Montana to say hello from the New Year on the East Coast, to the old year...there in Montana.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:11pm Chop Scott:

Irene! My patron saint towards engineering at WFMU, I so appreciate and respect. Bryce!!
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:12pm Chicago Dan:

Great show!
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:13pm herb.nyc:

@pantz. Korrect. - can you imagine Irene as operator but in Ernestine mode: "we are Bell telephone (snort snort), we serve everyone, from the richest muckety muck to the scum of the earth (snort snort)".
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:15pm TDK60:

Operator Irene would have calmed down the hurried and harried.
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:15pm melinda:

Hi David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:15pm TDK60:

That P.B.S./T.R. show was fine, see the Archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:18pm TDK60:

It's too bad the Fab 4 are/were maybe too over-obviously adored. Because they were fairly good!
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:24pm Andrew:

"Juana Molina will be bringing her 'powerful hallucinogenic vibes' to the American Utopia show in Montevideo next month," Byrne said, quoting SPIN.
She is opening for David Byrne---but Uraguay is too far away for me. Thanks for her album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:28pm TDK60:

Ah,,,listen to how they alternate between minor and major. Brilliant.
Avatar Tue. 3/6/18 10:30pm Tome:

lot of great records the Beatles had ,,, did they have a "better" one than A Hard Days Night ,,, NO !
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:34pm Scraps:

I love Molina, so much that I would buy tickets for David Byrne and leave before the headliner
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:37pm TDK60:

Saw Byrne & St. Vincent with brass band a few years back, very good.
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:44pm herb.nyc:

Nice story. A Robert Wyatt record for everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 10:45pm TDK60:

I try to explain to nephews, nieces of the current Younger age, that a radio station, especially a non-commercial one, is a different thing from a song shuffle on a gizmo. It's an arts institution in an actual place. A home for crazies, musical fanatics and therapists.
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:48pm KP:

Irene gets my vote!
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:49pm BEAVO:

Sun Zoom Spark
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:56pm BEAVO:

She’s swinging a sponge on the end of a string.
  Tue. 3/6/18 10:58pm BEAVO:

I’m glad she didn’t change it to his eyes.
  Tue. 3/6/18 11:00pm BEAVO:

Nice fiddling
  Tue. 3/6/18 11:01pm Friendly Fish:

There was a very good interview last December of Molina in the excellent She Shreds feminist guitar magazine.
     Tue. 3/6/18 11:02pm Listener Robert:

Regarding Ms. Trudel's remark about an hour ago of having learned sound engineering via WFMU, Ken has said that WFMU's not a place to come to learn the audio crafts and art -- but he never said it couldn't happen as a happy unintended byproduct.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:02pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, BEAVO, Nona didn't change the gender in any of the songs, which maybe was just a choice to stick with the original lyrics
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:08pm TDK60:

Do you mean 91.9 FM is the extension? Isn't 91.1 FM the older one?
  Tue. 3/6/18 11:08pm herb.nyc:

Nikitov- writer Gary Shteyngart has TIMATOV, short for Think I'm About to Vomit.
  Tue. 3/6/18 11:16pm Andrew:

Found the Juana Molina article, Friendly Fish. I wonder if Carina Alfie has been in that magazine.
  Tue. 3/6/18 11:19pm Friendly Fish:

I’ve been a subscriber to She Shreds for a year and she hasn’t been featured in it in the time I’ve been reading it. Hopefully this year she will be.
  Tue. 3/6/18 11:23pm Friendly Fish:

I am a swag for life member. I love WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:27pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, I'll have to look that article up, Andrew. Thanks for your loyalty, Friendly Fish (and all you others who have pledged). We need a few more pledges to get to our $4000 goal by midnight. We'd love to hear from you!

     Tue. 3/6/18 11:45pm Listener Robert:

That's right, Ms. Trudel, you have gentle, soothing music on about which it's no insult to say it puts listeners to sleep. That's how it's going to be in this time zone as long as you're in this time slot. When you were on in the afternoon following Ms. Berg's Mon. morning show, that was good too because after she revved us up to start the work week, your program would then mellow us out. A lot depends on the setting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:46pm Michael 98145:

just stopped by to see what condition my condition was in.
i have a phone number memory, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:46pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Listener Robert! It all depends on your frame of mind.
  Tue. 3/6/18 11:48pm Andrew:

Have you listened to the Willie Nelson version of Just Dropped in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Irene, Bryce and pledgers. Snow has started falling here. Should be pretty well covered by daybreak. ❄️
Tue. 3/6/18 11:50pm Adam West Coaster:

So pleased to be one of the weirdos! Viva WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:52pm Bryce:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/6/18 11:54pm Irene Trudel:
