Hello Kenzo and time-shifters. I won't last long today: three shows in the past two days, three more in the next two. I need to sleep at some point in between

i'm not sure it's accurate to say that any day of the week i'm listening to the archives. i mean, truth be told i rarely listen to archives. but it's certainly possible that i could. however it's far from true that any day of the week i might be found listening to the archives. that's just hyperbolic. anyway, good show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Notshifted Rich in Washington:

It sounds like Bob and Ray in the command module.
  6:10pm Timeshift Mike Noble:

hey folks, i'm a relatively new listener to the radio extravaganza. is the "i'm quitting soon" thing kenzo's schtick (thus the name of the show)? or is he really thinking about calling it a day?
Avatar 6:10pm Scraps deSelby:

Okay, sure. Bye!
Avatar 6:10pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Rich Did they talk about nothingness, or just nothing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm northguineahills:

empirically based science w/ a peer-reviewed community is almost always the best way to describe reality, but it reinforces the community's own subjective biases. What seems nonsensical, 'magical' today, may be proven by tomorrow's science (see quantum physics). That said, I'm skeptical of much New Agesisms (except the music, I dig that), but in the words of Socrates, "the only thing I know, is that I know nothing".
Avatar 6:11pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

and any advice for a new listener? should i start old and follow the march of time? travel backwards? hop around?
Avatar 6:12pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

When you were babies, you knew who you were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Notshifted Rich in Washington:

was that Timeshifted Kenzo talking about going on hiatus or non-shifted Kenzo telling us about it?
6:13pm Timeshift Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

By the way, Suicide is Painless was written by Johnny Mandel, who arranged the piano piece heard at the beginning of the show.
Avatar 6:13pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Rich Hm, I guess we could ask him

  6:24pm Timeshift Mike Noble:

Question for Kenzo or frequent listeners: On a recent program, there was heavy usage of the string part from "Street Hassle." I know Scharpling also used that sample earlier this year (and I'm not asking as some completist FOT, it was literally the only episode of TBS I heard all year--not a fan). Here's the question: coincidence? Or was one of you referencing the other?
Avatar 6:24pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yes indeed, gloomsday!
6:25pm Timeshift Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Mike: I did it months before he did, on same station; that's what I know. Of course I was doing sound collage for 19 years at that point.

6:28pm Timeshift Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Mike: I do a live show live to an audience nearly every week. But I air multiple times in some weeks due to multi-station, and so some weeks I replay the same content after the live happening. But then other weeks, I can't physically be near a radio studio, and so I dig up recordings of past shows I especially liked. Nothing about the shows is ever pre-made. Has to be live, at least the first time.
Avatar 6:30pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Where does your model go?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm northguineahills:

I have found many 'note to self' tapes in bins. They make great samples.

I sent you a package once of dirt from prospect park, because you said you missed new york, so I sent what I thought might be a small bit of the best part of New York...then I bought bulbs and put them in a box at the Park Slope food coop.

Someone at the coop, maybe someone named Yuri, said that they wished someone would send them a weirdo package like that. I said, maybe someone will. I never know if someone wants the bits of earth I mail across the earth to them, and so maybe they don't know also.

Once, I mailed Fall leaves from Olympia WA, to Japan. A tiny note inside said, It's Fall here, what is it there?"

I wonder if you ever opened that box of dirt and flowers? I wonder if the bulbs instead grew through the box, into the earth of the base of the stairs. I wonder if the whole place changed from a staircase to like a softly sloping meadow?

Maybe some things are better left unopened?
