Howdy Cheyenne and Sem and all!! Always here for field recordings!

Cheyenne:

I love that FMA has so many field recordings from so many parts of the world. I'm sure I'll do more field recording shows in the future.

Yvang:

Hi Cheyenne! these tunes are so good, even better with the "field" sounds.
Avatar 3:14pm
Cheyenne:

Thanks Yvang! I love the truly 'live' feel of field recordings. It's an audible slice of life!

Howdy Cheyenne. Eastern Uganda eh? Been there (Cue stories from 'When I was a Younger Man)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Stanley:

Senegal, too. It's really not at all difficult to come across local music in Africa. It's everywhere you go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Sem:

I could listen to Stanley's travel tales all day long.
Avatar 3:38pm
Cheyenne:

I've never traveled to Africa though I once had an opportunity to do ethnomusicology in Cameroon and now regret it - but I had already signed up for a study abroad summer in China. Hopefully someday I'll make it over there.

Cheyenne:

Also I love that you can hear this musician asking for Bruce's name and then singing about him in this song!

Been busy in lab all day in the lab, and since I was handling acids, I couldn't even say hello to WoofMooland via my phone, but I've been listening. I clicky-starred this episode, thanks Cheyenne, I should probably take a lunch break (have yet to eat today, and I have leftover Korean waiting for me at home).

Go eat some lunch, northguineahills! That's what the archive is for :)

@NGH: I can post some arepas to the playlist if you like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Stanley:

Thanks Sem. There were lots of African musicians who improvised songs. On one occasuion I had a song about me, whilst in a Sudanese 'shabeen', along the lines of where I had come from and how I found the local girls etc. Of course, I never had the foresight to record anything or even take photos (I gave my camera away to a friend I made). But I did come back with cassettes from the markets.

Nice, sounds like you had quite a memorable time, Stanley!

Cassettes! Prescient of you, hope they're still close to hand, but I'm guessing maybe not?

Hi, Cheyenne and listeners far afield.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Stanley:

Ah yes, Cheyenne. 'When I was a Younger Man'.
Sem, they're still around but my cassette player gave up the ghost some time ago. Plus many are poor recordings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Stanley:

These recordings are great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Sem:

....never "poor" recordings, but "veritapes." My own coinage, that.

Been fun today, Cheyenne. Can't wait for next week.
