For more than 25 years, Bob Irwin, the Dean of Sundazed Music, has befuddled, disoriented, and otherwise thrilled collectors and consumers alike by refusing to drive between the lines. Swerving wildly from garage to psych, from surf to soul, from biker to bossa, Bob’s steering with his elbows and hollerin’ like a banshee as he careens all over Route ‘60s, knocking over traffic cones.

The show is called Big Planet Noise! – and it’s hosted by Bob and Gina Frary Bacon, the gal with the great voice. It’s almost always all-vinyl, from Bob’s insane collection. The show became a must-listen in Nashville, a town unaccustomed to such carryings-on, and it’s now primed to become a part of your not-too-proud-to-be-surprised lives. Strap in and head to WFMU.org’s Rock ’n’ Soul Ichiban stream, every Monday from 8-10 pm EST!

Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:02pm bigplanetnoise:

Thanks! Andy! Hey - nice record score this weekend, pal!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:04pm Gina Bacon:

Thanks, Andy!!
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:05pm Andy R:

Thanks, bud! Friend of mine treated me REALLY nice at his yard sale.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:06pm bigplanetnoise:

Listen - any sale that's putting out orig Scott Walker LPs in original shrink can name their price, and it'd STILL be a great sale!
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:09pm Andy R:

You should have seen the look on my face!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:10pm bigplanetnoise:

Yeah - I can only imagine. It's like when I walked into the Escape a few months ago and they had JUST put out part of a magnificent collection. Everything mint, most in shrink. Scott 2, Scott 3, etc, etc....
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:14pm Mailman Tom:

My favorite Spirit song!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:15pm Gina Bacon:

Hey, Mailman Tom!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:15pm bigplanetnoise:

Yeah! A pal reminded me this week that the original mono single has never been reissued! So - here it is!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 8:15pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

Whoa Soupy Sales had incredible range I never realized!
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:16pm Andy R:

Never heard this in mono! Little new to exploring the Spirit catalog.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:16pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey Tania - I promise! Soupy is def coming up later tonight!!!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:16pm bigplanetnoise:

Andy - Spirit = desert island for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 8:16pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

I shall remain poised with pie in hand!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:18pm Mailman Tom:

Buffalo Springfield= Good. CSNY= NG
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:18pm bigplanetnoise:

Tania - Hahahaha!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:19pm bigplanetnoise:

Mailman Tom - no CSNY???
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 8:21pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

Love that West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band song
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:24pm bigplanetnoise:

Yeah, me too, Tania. Remind me to tell you Michale Lloyd stories sometime. Preferably over mucho tequila.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:24pm bigplanetnoise:

oops. I meant to type Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 8:26pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

Will do!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:27pm bigplanetnoise:

Glynis GGGG and I were getting all misty-eyed over the Spike Drivers last week. I LOVE their 45s. LOVE. In CAPITALS.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:27pm Mailman Tom:

The only CSNY song I liked was their first song, Marakesh Express!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:28pm bigplanetnoise:

Wow. That's amazing Tom. What turns you off? Curious, for real. Cause i love much of it.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:30pm bigplanetnoise:

This record is SO f&%king good. If it was a small unknown label, it'd be a couple hundred bucks.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:34pm Mailman Tom:

CSNY sounded too commercial and mainstream to my ears. At the time, I was listening to a lot of psychedelic and underground music, and this group was too "pretty" for me.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:36pm bigplanetnoise:

Ah. So who was your favorite at that time? I always thought that CSN was fairly organic in the beginning and it was one of the few times where the record companies and press actually followed the lead of the music and the musicians. I never got the impression that CSN set our to deliberately create a commercial enterprise. In the beginning, I mean.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:39pm Gina Bacon:

I get that, Tom...I loved them early, and then later on decided they were too soft sounding. But not for long!
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:40pm snayle:

made it...good evening from the swamps of jersey!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:40pm bigplanetnoise:

I loved them throughout, until they started making 100% shitty records.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:40pm Gina Bacon:

Howdy, Snayle!!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:41pm bigplanetnoise:

Snayle!!!!! A thousand heart emojis for one of my most favorite people on the planet!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:42pm Mailman Tom:

My favorite band at the time was the Grateful Dead. I saw them 20 times, starting in 1969.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:43pm bigplanetnoise:

Wow. Amazing. I've seen them maybe 10 times, starting in '74 or '75?
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:43pm bigplanetnoise:

So, you'd be okay if I were to play some Dead in our shows?!?
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:44pm snayle:

AW Shucks ! Blushimg/..Hearty emojis back atcha..time to ketchup ....Howdy Miss Gina and Sir B !!! Howdy Noisemakers!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:46pm Mailman Tom:

They were at their best when they still had Pigpen. Yes, by all means play some early Dead. I love the short version of St. Stephen or Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 8:46pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

The only time you wanna admit how old you are! 100!!! Congrats!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:47pm Gina Bacon:

Thanks, Glynis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 8:47pm Santos L. Halper:

Great show y'all! And yes, feel free to play Dead anytime. I'm amazed you and Tom were able to stop at 10 or 20 shows. As someone who only got on the bus in '85, i'dve killed to see them back in the day...
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:48pm bigplanetnoise:

Mailman Tom - you got it!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:49pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey GGGG!!! 100! Oy!
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:49pm Eargasm!:

Santos! Thank you for being here! I'm most def gonna play some great Dead stuff in the next show!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:50pm Gina Bacon:

Hola, Eargasm!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:50pm bigplanetnoise:

Eargasm! There you are!!!
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:50pm snayle:

Buenos Noches Senor Eargasm!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:51pm Mailman Tom:

The long version of Cream Puff War is great. When they reissued the first album on CD they included all the stuff that was edited out of the LP.
  Mon. 6/4/18 8:51pm snayle:

Great Segue!!!!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:52pm bigplanetnoise:

I remember that, Mailman Tom!

  Mon. 6/4/18 8:57pm Andy R:

Didn't The Beas do a recording of "Dr. Goldfoot and The Bikini Machine?"
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 8:57pm bigplanetnoise:

I love this stupid 45.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:00pm bigplanetnoise:

Jeez - I dunno Andy. I defer to Glynis on that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 9:00pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Yes! The Beas sure did, Andy.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:00pm bigplanetnoise:

Hahahaha! Boom.
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:00pm Mailman Tom:

My favorite Supremes song happens to be Dr. Goldfoot & the Bikini Machine. However, it's a song best made for playing on Crayons to Perfume and not this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 9:02pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

I once recorded with a band called Dr. Goldfoot & The Bikini Machine!!
  Mon. 6/4/18 9:03pm Andy R:

That's awesome, Glynis!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:03pm bigplanetnoise:

C'mon! Tell that story!!!!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:04pm Daffodil2:

Before or after the Byrds' version? (By the way, hi y'all! )
  Mon. 6/4/18 9:05pm snayle:

yess pleeze GGG....please ..deets...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 9:05pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Oh, I was awful! The band wasn't very good, but we had some fun. Low fi-garage with a Sonny looking bass player so they wanted me to be their red headed (back when I was) Cher. Our lead singer was a mailman, Tom! Lol!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:05pm bigplanetnoise:

Hi Daffodil!!! After!
  Mon. 6/4/18 9:05pm Eargasm!:

Love the Leathercoated Minds album
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:06pm Daffodil2:

And now... the Byrds! Yay!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:06pm Mailman Tom:

We mailman are multi-talented people. LOL
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:06pm bigplanetnoise:

This is the RCA Studios version of "WHY".... I found the orig master in Roger McGuinn's GARAGE!!!!!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:07pm Daffodil2:

Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:08pm Mailman Tom:

My favorite Byrds song is "Have You Seen Her Face". The guitars are super jangly and the melody is beautiful!
  Mon. 6/4/18 9:08pm snayle:

what?!WOW! Holy High Flyin!
  Mon. 6/4/18 9:08pm Andy R:

That's amazing!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:10pm Daffodil2:

From the NAMM oral history project: "Glenn Snoddy was working in the recording studio in Nashville, when a short on the control board caused Grady Martin's guitar to take on a new sound. The engineers and producer looked at one another and asked if they heard that fuzzy sound. That sound was later requested by other artists who sought the studio out. So, Glenn went home and designed an effects box that was later sold to Gibson with the same name Glenn gave the device, the Fuzz Tone!" The great Grady Martin!!!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:12pm Gina Bacon:

There it is...thanks, Daffodil!
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:12pm bigplanetnoise:

Thank God for the fuzz box. Amen. I might well have been a plumber had it not been...
Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:13pm Mailman Tom:

Crawdaddy magazine referred to it as Raga-Rock
  Mon. 6/4/18 9:14pm snayle:

The Soups! That was no girl, that was Black Tooth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 9:15pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

So how many titles does this song really have?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/4/18 9:15pm Real Nitty Gritty Tania:

Avatar Mon. 6/4/18 9:15pm bigplanetnoise:
