Avatar Mon. 6/11/18 7:11pm Dan Bodah:

Good evening Fryers. I think this Huun-Huur-Tu/Angelite collab would've worked out even without the massive reverb and compression. It was the 90s, though...

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:28pm northguineahills:

Sainkho Namthylak had her temporal membranes burst when beaten by Soviet police (don't think it was the KGB). She still suffers problems b/c of that injury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:29pm Michael 98145:

Wonder what the Tuvan word is for necklace-of-warthog-teeth ??
Avatar Mon. 6/11/18 7:29pm Dan Bodah:

@northguineahills, never heard that! Do you have a ref about it? I'd like to find out more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:29pm northguineahills:

err... tympanic membranes (temporal membranes would be more impressive....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:30pm Richard S:

Tympanic Membranes = Eardrums
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:30pm northguineahills:

@Dan: I read about it in a The Wire interview, I want to say in the early 2000s....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:30pm chresti:

ah! thank you!
  Mon. 6/11/18 7:31pm WebHamster Henry:

I’m on Kingston, not too far from the Ashokan reservoir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:31pm Rich in Washington:

Wiki says she was beaten by 'Tuvan racketeers' and was left in a coma for two months, but also something about the removal of a malignant brain tumor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:31pm northguineahills:

(multitasking and woofmooing is serious business!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:31pm chresti:

NGH that's awful
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:32pm Rich in Washington:

some of these voices remind me of The Kipper Kids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:32pm Drunken Creep:

Love this David Moss track, strange, fun, uplifting, imprsessive
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:32pm northguineahills:

@Rich: I believe they were local police, and being the location, obviously corrupt AF.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

ah. More or less the same, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:33pm northguineahills:

Still trying to figure out how to burst my temporal membrane.

@Rich. Yep!

A while back (January), Trevor Noah gave short introduction how to pronounce Xhosa words (his mother is Xhosa). I need more lessons....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:42pm northguineahills:

Akim Baloch, new to me!
Avatar Mon. 6/11/18 7:43pm Dan Bodah:

@Brian in NO: thanks for the tip - I'll check it out! @NGH yes, I need to work on my clicks
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:44pm chris:

listening in the north bay of SF, CA. digging the heck out of the selections tonight, Dan. hi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:45pm northguineahills:

Yeah, the clicks, ticks, pauses, etc trip me up. I like studying linguistics, but I'm barely competent in speaking one of them (English), and am barely conversational in maybe another four.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:46pm Richard S:

If Xhosa is strange, wait until we meet aliens and try to figure out what they're saying!
Avatar Mon. 6/11/18 7:46pm Dan Bodah:

@NGH: The only place I've ever been able to find nar sur (or nur sur) music is on youtube, where there are hundreds of videos with almost no info attached and exactly 1 short TV documentary in English from a Pakistani TV program. It's a style of music from Balochistan that's obscure even there, exists in the interstitial zone at the Afghan and Iranian borders, and is considered very "hick" to most Pakistanis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:47pm northguineahills:

Yeah, there's a Balochistani independence movement in both Iran and Pakistan, so its a no-go zone for anyone but the locals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:48pm northguineahills:

(and it's the most arid areas of both countries).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:52pm Richard S:

So many little countries want to be independent. I am not certain this "new tribalism" is a good thing. But that discussion is for another time and place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 7:55pm Richard S:

YODEL!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/11/18 8:01pm Richard S:

I HAVE A DR DEMENTO T-SHIRT!!!!
