Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Favoriting June 20, 2018: A to Z'EV

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Z'EV at The Clocktower Gallery, 2010

A to Z’EV, a remembrance of the industrial music maestro Z’EV
(in advance of the free memorial concert at the Kitchen on June 23, 2018)
and a journey through language gymnastics from Jennifer Walshe & Tony Conrad,
Meredith Monk, and Shelley Hirsch. Outré with a bang.

Artist Track Album Label Year Comments
Z'EV  #38 Outro 0 bpm   Favoriting Face The Wound  Soleilmoon Recordings  2005  From an album of many spoken word/broadcast tidbits and sound vignettes.
Malawi Mouse Boys  Kulira Kwambewa (The Crying of the Mouse)   Favoriting Forever is 4 U  Omnivore Records  2016  Ridgewood Radio Theme https://lovesupportunite.org

Music behind DJ:
Coro Arquidiocesano De Santa Fé De La Vera Cruz

Gregorian Chant Mashup   Favoriting

Canto Gregoriano a Vierge Marie

EGMusic Classics

2018

Weinstein mix of two tracks from this album, turning monophonic line into harmonic mashup of Gregorian chant. Shameful.
Ma La Pert: Jennifer Walshe & Tony Conrad  Live Set Recording   Favoriting Roulette Concert Series  Roulette Intermedium  19 Feb 10  Ma la Pert (was) the duo of Jennifer Walshe and Tony Conrad. They use voice, violins, viola, bass, autoharps, autotune, keyboard, shells, broken plastic, words, parts of words, stories, chanting, jigs, screaming, shouting, broken drum skins, bells, green furry outfits, breastplates, wire, bird call, and old lady dresses.
Meredith Monk  Dolmen Music   Favoriting Dolmen Music  ECM  1981  Amazing collection of folks: Meredith Monk voice, piano; Collin Walcott percussion, violin; Steve Lockwood piano; Andrea Goodman voice; Monika Solem voice; Paul Langland voice; Robert Een voice, cello; Julius Eastman percussion, voice.
Shelley Hirsch  Club Enchantment   Favoriting The Far In, Far Out Worlds of Shelley Hirsch  Tzadik  2002  Hirsch will perform at the Z'EV memorial concert at The Kitchen on June 23. Free. 7pm. The piece performed there is a collaboration with David W, and a Z'EV fave.
Z'EV  Solo Z#1   Favoriting Rubhitbangklanghear Rubhitbangklangear  Sub Rosa  2013  A very fine example of the solo work Z'EV was making with the setup pictured above. A master of metallurgy and stretched skin dynamics, Z'EV engineered most of his instruments and developed unique techniques to coax the sound from them.
Z'EV  z=-(Es+E3)   Favoriting Sum Things  Cold Spring  2009  In the fall of 2005 Z'EV began dipping deep into his archives and selecting recordings to produce a project reflecting his take on the 'dark ambience' genre.
Charlemagne Palestine & Z’EV  Duo C/Z #1   Favoriting Rubhitbangklanghear Rubhitbangklangear  Sub Rosa  2013  The result of three days spent in June 2010 in their only recorded meeting. Palestine on the outsized, baton-operated bells of a carillon and Z’EV on an assortment of monumental drums

She reminds me of Shelley....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm

And Shelley loves her. There is a very high level of imagination and spontaneity they share.
