For more than 25 years, Bob Irwin, the Dean of Sundazed Music, has befuddled, disoriented, and otherwise thrilled collectors and consumers alike by refusing to drive between the lines. Swerving wildly from garage to psych, from surf to soul, from biker to bossa, Bob’s steering with his elbows and hollerin’ like a banshee as he careens all over Route ‘60s, knocking over traffic cones.

The show is called Big Planet Noise! – and it’s hosted by Bob and Gina Frary Bacon, the gal with the great voice. It’s almost always all-vinyl, from Bob’s insane collection. The show became a must-listen in Nashville, a town unaccustomed to such carryings-on, and it’s now primed to become a part of your not-too-proud-to-be-surprised lives. Strap in and head to WFMU.org’s Rock ’n’ Soul Ichiban stream, every Monday from 8-10 pm EST!

with that bee-sting guitar line
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:19pm bigplanetnoise:

Everyone's so quiet.... did I get you all thinking about Thanksgiving turkey?
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:19pm Mailman Tom:

Hassinger was the audio engineer for the Dead's first album. An LP that really holds up over time!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:19pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey Mailman Tom! Yeah. He was an absolute genius. Creating timeless productions.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:20pm Gina Bacon:

Hey, Mailman Tom!
  Mon. 7/16/18 8:20pm Andy Ross:

Got me thinking about Turkey and I was putting a 45 of "Talk Talk" into a new sleeves. I do a lot of my record care during the show.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:21pm Gina Bacon:

Mmmm....turkey...
  Mon. 7/16/18 8:21pm Jay S.:

Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:21pm bigplanetnoise:

Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:26pm bigplanetnoise:

Oh no - did you loan records, Snayle???
  Mon. 7/16/18 8:28pm snayle:

Yeah, until Bob Klinge borrowed Freak Out and totally screwed it up... no more records left my eye without supervision !
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:28pm AlexClarkCaprio:

Bob, you ever hear of the punk band Descendents? They added "age" to words often in song titles - ie. "Bikeage"
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:29pm bigplanetnoise:

Snayle, I'll totally beat up that Bob Klinge for you if you want.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 8:29pm Rich in NC:

Hello all,,,,,hi Bob and Gina
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:29pm AlexClarkCaprio:

When I had records I never lent them out, but people lent me theirs in exchange for a mp3 rip of the album / 45
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:30pm bigplanetnoise:

Alex - no - don't know them! We started doing that here a while ago with "fuzzage" and "hornage"

Second that Jay!
  Mon. 7/16/18 8:51pm David VanHooser:

Has Loco Vibrato covered that wonderful version of Hang 'Em High yet? Nice Spoonful sound behind your chat.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:51pm Gina Bacon:

Oh, nice, Alex! That's cool.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:51pm AlexClarkCaprio:

The standout tracks have been Los Bravos "Going Nowhere"
The Unrelated Segments "Where You Gonna Go"
The Byrds "Lady Friend" The Gents "If You Don't Come Back"
Jameson "Who's Been Putting You On"
Grass Roots "Only When You're Lonely"
I could go on and on, you all share my enthusiasm
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:52pm bigplanetnoise:

Well, thank you Jay - how nice to hear!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:52pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey David!!! Glad you're here! Hang 'Em High is on deck for us, for sure!!!! And I'm glad you noticed the Spoonful bed behind our chat!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:52pm AlexClarkCaprio:

"Girls Don't Girl On Trees" was put on a mix tape I made off YouTube videos when I first discovered all this music in the summer of 2011
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:53pm Gina Bacon:

Ha...thanks, Jay!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:53pm bigplanetnoise:

The start of your list is super intriguing, Alex!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:53pm Ronnie Dark:

Great Ides track Bob and Gina! Are you both familiar with "Strawberry Sundae"?
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:53pm bigplanetnoise:

Jim Peterik was all of 17 at this time.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:54pm bigplanetnoise:

Ronnie - yes! Their lone Kapp 45!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:54pm Daffodil2:

My sources say that Girls Don't Grow on Trees and the flip side, Hole in my Soul, were the only releases they recorded in stereo on Parrot.
  Mon. 7/16/18 8:55pm Jay S.:

There the sitar we've been waiting for
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:55pm Daffodil2:

Sitar!!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:55pm bigplanetnoise:

Well, not exactly true. They were the only songs from that period that were originally MIXED to stereo at the time. But - left unissued until we put the set out in the early 2000's.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:55pm Ronnie Dark:

cool track with Leslie guitars on it (Ides of March song I referenced). And now the Cyrkle <3
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:55pm Gina Bacon:

Glad y'all love the sitars as much as we do!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:56pm bigplanetnoise:

Can I do a show without sitars? It'd be tough!
  Mon. 7/16/18 8:57pm Andy Ross:

I was blown away to learn there was a single by Lord Sitar on last week's show!
Mon. 7/16/18 8:57pm Tim from LH:

We’re The Cyrkle on the last Beatles tour with The Remains?
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:58pm bigplanetnoise:

Yes! Crazy that there was a single issued. And both sides are GREAT!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:58pm AlexClarkCaprio:

I like this E-Types tune, I only know "Put That Clock..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 8:58pm Matt Clarke:

Greetings from the Worcester to NYC Peter Pan Bus Bob 'n Gina 'm all!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:59pm Daffodil2:

Thanks to Sundazed records, these guys got better coverage in the 90s!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 8:59pm Matt Clarke:

The E-Types are the closest to nailing the Hollies vocal blend
  Mon. 7/16/18 8:59pm Andy Ross:

I think one of the great joys of those Ultra Lounge CDs Capitol did in the 90s was it gave people like me a chance to see just what all they have lurking in the vaults. First heard Lord Sitar on a couple of those compilations.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 8:59pm bigplanetnoise:

They were, Tim - also with Bobby Hebb & the Ronettes!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:00pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey MATT! Host of one of my most favorite shows on the planet!!!!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:00pm bigplanetnoise:

Andy - those were cool comp's for sure.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:00pm Gina Bacon:

Hi Matt!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:04pm bigplanetnoise:

Ha! Just saw that, Daffodil! Thanks! For the record, Jim Peterik (who would go on to write such $$$ songs as "Eye of the Tiger") is one of the nicest guys on planet earth.
  Mon. 7/16/18 9:04pm Jay S.:

There seems to be no end to the obscure Mercury gems
  Mon. 7/16/18 9:04pm Nina:

I agree with you daffodil!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:05pm bigplanetnoise:

Mercury is astounding, for sure, Jay
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:05pm bigplanetnoise:

More sitars!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:05pm bigplanetnoise:

Curt Boettcher & co.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 9:06pm Matt Clarke:

Was this a Curt studio project?
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:07pm Ronnie Dark:

this is killer! Never heard of the Oracle!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:07pm bigplanetnoise:

Yeah. It's basically the Ballroom doing a 45 for Verve.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:07pm bigplanetnoise:

Michelle O'Malley, etc...
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:07pm bigplanetnoise:

Both sides KILLER.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:09pm bigplanetnoise:

Ronnie - your show always has a mighty fine-lookin' playlist!
  Mon. 7/16/18 9:11pm Andy Ross:

Someday Man!!! I love this song. I love the copy of the Paul Williams album with this on it you gave me. It's GOLD!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:11pm AlexClarkCaprio:

I never gave Paul Williams a chance until I heard "Someday Man" on this show not too long ago. I put it on a mix CD for my girlfriend
  Mon. 7/16/18 9:12pm Nina:

Yea Monkees... so cool
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:12pm Mailman Tom:

Love hearing some of these rare 45s for the first time. The records sound so clean. You must take very good care of them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 9:12pm Matt Clarke:

Thought I heard Michele loud and upfront!!
Top Monkees tunes. The Bones Howe approach really suited Davy
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:13pm bigplanetnoise:

Thanks guy. I really appreciate hearing that stuff.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:15pm Ronnie Dark:

thanks Bob! I can be a TOTAL suck up and say Sundazed had a lot to do with my musical education in the 90's early 2000s. It's awesome that nearly 20 years later we're playing cool stuff on the radio. Eventually we should all do a WM/BPN mashup!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:17pm bigplanetnoise:

Awwww. Thanks Ronnie! Very appreciated. Always music first! A mash-up sure would be fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 9:18pm Matt Clarke:

More bands should copy the Hermits
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:19pm bigplanetnoise:

How damn underrated are they, Matt??? To this day, I have some friends that blow them off completely. You know how we were joking about "TURTLES EVERY WEEK!"? We should also add "HERMITS EVERY WEEK!" to the roster.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:20pm Ronnie Dark:

We'll have to work on that for the future
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 9:20pm DJ Pat K:

Sounding great tonight!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:21pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey Pat K!!!! Welcome!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 9:21pm Matt Clarke:

1 track from Blaze every week
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:22pm bigplanetnoise:

I bet I've already played half that album on BPN, Matt! Sooooo wonderful.
  Mon. 7/16/18 9:22pm snayle:

Herman's Hermits and Paul Revere & the Raiders are def two of the most underrated bands ever... ! Love hearing the stuff that's been under the radar for decades !
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:23pm Ronnie Dark:

Ooh the B side to this is great too! Ronnie Dio post Prophets and pre Elf! Ronnie was a Cortland native just a stones throw from Syracuse. We interviewed Elves guitarist Dave Rock Feinstein in 2011!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 9:23pm Matt Clarke:

Someone digested their Dylan ;)
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:23pm bigplanetnoise:

Agreed. I LOVE playing that stuff. I mean - I love rarities too. But - there's something about reminding folks how very cool some of these bands truly were that got kicked around for not being hip enough. Jeez. Sorry for the rant!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:24pm bigplanetnoise:

Ronnie - I had no idea about that! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 7/16/18 9:24pm Matt Clarke:

Its that punk rock mentality that festers sometimes in garage-rawkerz
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:25pm Ronnie Dark:

The Electric Elves morphed into the Elves (on Decca) and then Elf
  Mon. 7/16/18 9:25pm Jay S.:

Everybody had to up their games during this period, and sadly some of it was going to be overlooked
  Mon. 7/16/18 9:25pm Andy Ross:

It's such a spoil of riches how much Turtles material is now in print these days.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:25pm bigplanetnoise:

Yep - that's true. We aim to fix it, dammit.
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:26pm bigplanetnoise:

Yes Andy! For sure!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:27pm bigplanetnoise:

Let's go rock-folking, y'all!
Avatar Mon. 7/16/18 9:27pm AlexClarkCaprio:

very Byrdsy riff
